Nsen

The nsen is a traditional piece of clothing worn by Darnians of all genders and classes. It is typicaly worn during the day, and accompanied by a Hinre, which is worn over the head.

Appearance

General

The Nsen is made in order to protect the wearer from the heat and especialy from the intensity of the sun, typical in the region. It consists of a large cloak-like garment worn over the shoulders and drapped over much of the body, including the arms, chest, backside and legs down the the knees. The belly, crotch area and the front of the legs are left uncovered by the Nsen and are covered by other light clothing worn below it. The wrists and hands are also not covered by the Nsen.

Colour

Most Nsen are dyed in yellow, red or green. In the south of Darnia, yellow is by far the most popular colour, followed by red. In the north, Green is the most popular colour. Blue can be seen all around the country, and since blue dye is generaly the most expensive, it is generaly reserved for wealthier wearers. Black accents are also very commonly sewed near or at the seams and paterns made of various colours are typical of Nsens worn by richer folks.

Manufacturing process

The desired material from which the Nsen will be made is collected and cut into pieces with the approppriate dimensions. These piece are then dyed and sowned together.

History

The exact origins of the Nsen are unknown, but darnian scholars and historians have uncovered evidence of their existance in ruins dating all the way back to the start of the first age, either as bits of preserved material, or much more commonly, as references to them in literature of the time as well as depictions of people, usualy lower class, wearing them on various ancient imagery which are either carved in stone or drawn on papyrus or paper.

The nsen is the most common piece of clothing in Darnia, as it is worn by almost everybody. Nsens made with higher quality materials are rarer and more expansive. These are reserved for the nobility or wealthy merchants

Nsens are commonly made of either linen or cotton. Wealthier people may instead have them made of silk. These materials are then dyed into various colours.
