Mercenary guild Emblems

Guild Emblems are symbols, used as a signature in contracts signed by the guild, on the buildings belonging to them, such as their guildhalls or as a tag in the form of a tattoo, meant to signal other guilds that this mercenary belongs to them and what rank they are. While these symbols are fairly widespread in Hysal, they are very much more popular in Arros, where the uniquely large number of Mercenary guilds is what prompted the creation of this system. It is now a vital system in the operations of Guilds all over the Continent and the world.

Tattoos

Once a mercenary finishes training, he will be given a tattoo. This tattoo will always be on the right cheek, directly under the eye. Its symbol represents the guild he works for.    A single tattoo under the right eye means that the Mercenary is of low rank, and generally serves under a mercenary legion leader. Legion leaders are higher ranked mercenary and have two tattoos under their eye. A mercenary with three tattoos is the leader of the Guild, or if the leader of the guild is not a mage, then the tattooed mercenary would be second in command. mercenaries with three tattoo under their eyes are extremely rare and meeting one is considered an honor amongst fellow Mage mercenaries.    Notably, Guild Emblems do not contain any words, and that reflects on the tattoos as well as they are instead all simple to moderately ornate pictures of, for example, an iron Shield, or a dragon wing.    When a gilded Mercenary becomes a freelance mercenary, he needs to cross out his tattoos. This is done by a simple straight black line across all the tattoos the mercenary acquired. Rather than being seen as a type of rejection of their former guild, it is more seen as an acknowledgement of their accomplishments as a Mercenary during their times under a Guild, as it takes a lot of work to become a freelance mercenary. More Formerly, it means that the mercenary is not associated with any type of Guild. this technically means that they can be killed by other Mercenaries, but this is generally not something that is done as mercenary mages killing each other outside of a battlefield is viewed very badly.

On Buildings

Every Guildhall has its symbol prominently shown on the building. Usually its carved or painted on the doors. There may even be a sign attached to the building or a flag with the symbol on it. Either way, it has to be prominently visible to anyone passing close to the area.

On Contracts

At the bottom of every guild contracts, whether its between two guilds, a guild and a novice or a guild and an outside organisation, the guild emblem will always be stamped as a signature.
