The Academy
"The Academy isn't a place. It's a state of mind, one that sits right on the line between brilliance and insanity."Set deeply into the cliffs facing the Axonian Sea, the Grand Chronian Academy of the Arts, also known simply as "The Academy", is the epicentre of learning for Chronia. The Academy hosts scholars from all over the world in its halls, and its towers hold almost all of the collective knowledge and history of Chronia. Scholars of the Academy come from all different fields of expertise, from literature, to astronomy, to science, and of course, scholars of the magical arts and the different schools and fields of magic.
Structure and Roles
The Academy is split into 33 Colleges, each dedicated to its own area of research and study. Each College has its own campus at the Academy, with their own halls of residence, dining halls, and libraries. The faculty belong to the Colleges, and each College is presided over by a Dean. Each of the 33 Deans as well as the Vice-Chancellor of the Academy form the Illuminated Council of the Great Academy (informally known as the The Carmine Council or the "Carmines", due to the deep-red robes worn by the Deans). The Vice-Chancellor presides over the Academy itself, and is responsible for all major decisions that affect the Academy as a whole. Any business that cannot be dealt with by a College on its own, will be dealt with by the Vice-Chancellor and his deputies. The Vice-Chancellor is usually elected from amongst the Deans, and serves a five-year term before stepping down and retiring from the Carmine Council to return to their studies. The newly elected Vice-Chancellor cannot be from the same College as the previous Vice-Chancellor to prevent any one College from becoming too prestigious or powerful. Despite this, the various Colleges are not entirely equal, and many on the Carmine Council grumble and complain that one College or another has grown too large or powerful for their own good.The 33 Colleges

The current Vice-Chancellor of the Academy is Scherazade Sal'Dain , who was previously the Dean of the College of Astronomy.
