"The stars, they're wrong..."
Jasper is a young student in the College of Astronomy at
The Academy . Once a bright and promising student and under the direct tutelage of
Scherazade Sal'Dain , Jasper is now confined indefinitely in the dark cells of the Academy Infirmary, catatonic with only occasional outbursts of gibberish.
Biography
Jasper joined the Academy as soon as he came of age, obsessed with the study of astronomy and celestial movement. Quickly becoming a protege of Scherazade, his study of stellar bodies and in particular, their movement across the sky, formed the basis for his doctoral theses. As part of his studies, he ventured off to one of his private viewing spots one night so that he could gather more data in order to defend his thesis and hopefully obtain his doctorate. He disappeared for three nights.
On the fourth night, he was found near the Sage's Library, dirty, disheveled, and muttering gibberish. His arms and chest had been scratched deeply and he was bleeding badly. Skin was later found under his fingernails, implying that the wounds on his body had been self-inflicted. Those who wound up detaining him and taking him to the infirmary later said that he had been ranting a combination of incomprehensible gibberish and only the words "
stars", "
wrong" and "
attack".
He was taken to the infirmary that night, but quickly had to be put into a cell for his own protection, as he would continuously attempt to claw at his skin or bash his head against the wall. Even clerical magic could not restore him to his previous self. Eventually, after about several days, he simply slipped into a catatonic state, only occasionally awakening only to begin ranting again.
Personality
Prior to his incident, Jasper was known to be a personable, if quiet, individual. He much preferred his studies over social activities, but when brought out, had a humble and friendly attitude that quickly endeared himself to many.
After the incident, Jasper is almost entirely catatonic, with occasional outbursts of fear or violence against himself.
