The United Societies
The United Societies are the church of Quetminook. Each society is an autonomous unit, often with shallow heirarchies. They operate in unison, if one society takes on beliefs that the others feel are antithetical to Quetminook, the others work together to replace the rogue society and label them heretical or apostate. The Goblins contend that the best way to worship Quetminook is through research and spread of knowledge. This has led to the societies largely being places to exchange information and debate ideologies.
The Societies work collabratively and strive to foster atmospheres of mutual respect, while balancing that with an openness to debate ideas and challenge convention. The only problems are when individual societies refuse to examine new ideas and hold to ones proven flawed with no room for citique.
The churches of the society are not usually the towering cathedrals favored by other churches, but rather buildings or underground complexes with interiors of dark wood. When there are not events, the lights are usually left low as those gathered sip alcohol of a dark amber color and smoke thick cigars (the damage of which can often be healed on-site by the Curator or a Docent.) Given that they are traditionally built to Goblin sizes, when others visit these establishments, they can find the dimensions somewhat confining.
Societies can band together for any number of reasons, including events, dealing with a Rouge Society, or discussing new areas of study. These gatherings are generally short term, with little to no expectation of future alliance. Societies value their independance, as it allows them to pursue the things that they specialize in. Sometimes, when several Societies all have expertise in similar or adjacent areas of study, they will work together frequently to share discoveries and debate the merits of particular methods or theories. These are generally the strongest alliances that can be found within the greater structure of the Societies.
There are some minor differences in beliefs of the societies when it comes to Quetminook (largely divided along geographical markers), but as long as these beliefs do not stray into the heretical. These small differences lead to some of the largest debates, drawing in members of Societies far and wide, and not insignificant public attention either. These events are generally considered by Goblins and Quetminites to be the top social events of the season.
Structure
Each society is different, and has its own specialties, but the vast majority are set up in the following way:
The Society is led by a Curator, in charge of setting the society's policies, focuses, and agendas. They often go out to find people to give lectures, panels, or debates. These can range on subjects from natural law to Dwarven culinary habits. A Curator will often give their own as well, though theirs are usually more akin to homilies focused on the teachings of Quetminook.
Below each Curator are several Docents that are also well-versed in boh Quetminook's word and the advancement of both magic and science. Docents often facilitate a Curator's needs, as they study literary, rhetorical, and scientific devices.
