Polomis Forest
The Polomis Forest surrounds the eponymous city, offering a steady supply of wood and a windbreak to the Elves. Polomis is one of the most difficult cities in the world to gain access to, a reputation that this enchanted wood helps it protect. From the south, there are mountains, and the single road that leads to Polomis: the Sequestered Road. In these mountains is where the forest starts, all tall pines, lichen, and hardy underbrush. It then contuinues northward, continuing for hundreds of miles around the city.
Inside the forest, not even the most seasoned of navigators and outlanders can keep their sense of direction. Tools moth magical and mundane fail to function within the trees. The only ones that seem able to be capable of moving around freely within the woods are the elves and those who have been named elf-friend. All others are befuddled, and exit the forest. Where they exit is not particularly uniform. Occassionally, it will be where they entered, other times hundreds of miles away, with only an afternoon's travel. In some rare cases, they walk out of a different and altogether unconnected forest. One man claims to have meen transported to the eastern reaches of the Lindral Forest from the the forest in Riflian. It would likely be easiest to use a Warpstone to get to Polomis, but the elves pay the Warpstone Operator's Guild a high premium to keep the addresses of their stones off of official records.
Geography
The southern reaches of the forest are mountainous, but as the forest stretches north, the lands become far more flat until they reach the northern coast and the sea. There are a few frozen lakes as well in the forest.
Ecosystem
Despite the fact that this forest is in an area of never-ending winter, none of the plants here seem to suffer from teh cold. They all manage to obtain moisture and nutrients from the soil. Within the forest itself, most of the animals are small, with the largest of them being arctic foxes. Adventures that ventured tehre with ill intent, however, report denziens of the forest that were beastly, and certianly no biethtìre, that hunted them for days before they were able to escape. Even then, none who tell this story are unscathed, and many of their more fanatical companions failed to escape entirely.
Localized Phenomena
The woods are enchanted to only allow elves and those named elf-friend through to Polomis. Those wh are affected by the magic often report feeling exhausted or ravenously hungry when they emerge. The elves themselves often reply in their haughty manner taht clearly they and their allies are the only ones worthy of making their way through and getting to the city.
No one is particularly sure where the enchantment comes from, or why it was put up. Records first note its existance before the elves self-isolated in the north, which further confuses many scholars.
Climate
This forest has an exceptionally cold climate, only somewhat tempered by the arctic sea to the north. While it seems to snow here with some frequency, and is never warm enough for the snow to melt, it never seems to accumulate more than a few feet, a feat many attribute to the mysterious enchantment on the forest.
