Harkinmont
Harkinmont is the City of 10,000 Tomorrows. It exists in a pocket of time where time moves at 10 times the pace outside. It is Chenravo’s center of magical research and advancement. Each branch of magic has its own ward in the city, and a member on the Meritorious Council, the ruling council of the city.
The city is Chenravo’s largest, and home to those of all walks of life. If anything can be said of the city, however, it is that it is awash with magic. Its reputation as a center of magic brings in people who want to learn, practice, and expand it. It is also one of the only places where magic items are being forged. The advance of research here has been further accelerated by the time disparity.
Tension brews within the city, however, as the artificers who are so valued for their creations are repeatedly refused representation on the Meritorious Council. While the Artificers may not have much political power, the strength of their creations means that if their patience runs out, a revolution would be deadly.
The Meritorious Council is selected based upon a magical selecting process designed by Artyic S. Pteternon. It evaluates the research of everyone within the city, and measures their potential and decision making. Members of the board are those that the program has decided are the most valuable and capable leaders who had contributet the most to Harkinmont. Pteternon themself, however, ensured that they would not be evaluated by the spell, so that he could not be placed in a position with responsibilities. While the spell can be modified to a degree in order ot add new wards and members, it has never been done. (In addition, no one has been able to figure out how Pteternon excluded himself from the spell.)
Demographics
Harkinmont is one of the most diverse places in Chenravo, people of all kinds flock and are welcomed to this place.
Government
The city is divided into 8 wards, one each for each school of magic, excluding chronomancy, as it is difficult to practice in the distorted time field of Harkinmont. Instead, much of their research occurs at Harkinmont East, a smaller city just outside the field.
Each ward is led by a single council member, who is awarded their position based upon their research in their field of study.
Districts
There are currently eight wards of the city, though there have been movements to expand that number to reflect other kinds of casters. So far, those efforts have not been successful.
The eight wards each correllate to a different style of wizard specialization.
There is the Abjuration Ward, focused on creating protective magics.
The Conjuration Ward summons allies, but also works on teleportation.
The Divination Ward peels back the curtain, and attempts to glimpse the future.
The Enchantment Ward develops magic related to influincing the minds of others.
The Evocation Ward creates ever more powerful and cunning offensive spells.
The Illusion Ward is focused on making their creations ever more convincing and powerful.
The Necromancy Ward studies the line between life and death, as well as crossing it.
The Transmutation Ward develops new materials, and is invaluble at keeping warious materials stocked.
History
Originally constructed in order to buy more time to find a solution to the Wibovite problem, Harkinmont has gone beyond its foundational purpose, and become a place where anyone can contribute to the advance of magic in Chenravo.
Geography
Harkinmont was situated on rich, fertile land to ensure that as the city expanded at an accelerated rate, they would be able to grow enough food to survive. The land here is also particularly flat.
Climate
While not far from the Wall of Walking Frost, Harkinmont's mastery of magic means that they can alter the weather to suit their needs.
