Bloodrock Keep

While once a thriving community, largely removed from the mainland, the area that would come to be known as Bloodrock Keep became home to something much more sinister. No one is sure what happened on the island, but what is clear is that no one survived, and the island has developed some strange phenomena. The once proud buildings have fallen to ruins, and a coppery smell and taste linger on the wind. Strange creatures roam, hostile to any who dare step foot on the island. Sailors superstitiously avoid even being able to see the island, believing that even to lay eyes on it is to be cursed by all the souls who could not escape. Once so full of promise, now this island stands in the ocean as a monument to senseless tragedies, and the people caught up in them.

Geography

Previously, the island was lush and beautiful, but since the incident, it has grown wild and dangerous. Much of the isle's coast is covered in cliffs, ranging form 32 to 96 feet tall. Only on the northeast corner of the island is there safe harbor and a beach. The water at this beach is tinted red, as the water leeches the rains from the sand. There are hills and a mountain on the northwest coast, with some of the hills forming smaller islands off the coast. The slowly accumulating coagulated blood from the blood rains has slowly been buildnig up its height and making it a steeper and more treacherous climb.    The main city was located in the southwest of the island, and its ruins still remain there. While not large by any means, it had been built with expansion in mind, given that they were hardly in want of resources. Unfortunately, all the extra construction added difficulties to making it to the harbor. If there hadn't been so much, who knows how many might have been able to make it off the island.

Localized Phenomena

When the clouds are full to bursting, and it comes time for the rains once more on the isle, it is not water, but blood that falls from the heavens. This blood rain only started with whatever devastating horror fell upon the island. It has made it difficult to protect the history of the place, or recover any records detailing the events leading up to the destruction. The rain also seemed to have a demoralizing effect on the Realmsplitters, though it is unclear whether or not this effect was magical in nature.

Natural Resources

The idol had been a good place to settle down, rich with resources, and difficult to attack given its remoteness and the scale of its cliffs. There were many schools of fish in the reefs around the island, and the land was fertile. There were many local fruits and nuts that were of great benefit to the residents. While it was still in the early stages, a mine in the mountain showed good promise for high-quality marble and granite.   While the stone likely remains, the same cannot be said for the other resources. Since the incident, no one has managed to conduct studies on the reef or the plants to see how they adapted. In all likelihood, the plants are lost, but the same may not be true of the fish. The reef may remain, if the bloodrain has not tainted the water too much, and where there are reefs, there are sure to be fish.

History

While once a bright and prosperous place, what had once been known as Karkarell's Landing became Bloodrock Keep. A terrible tragedy befell the island, killing all residents. For a long time, it was abandoned. Hostile creatures and unsettling phenomena made it impossible to rehabitate the far-flung island.   It was largely left alone for years. Sailors had no reason to go anywhere near the place, and regarded it as cursed, besides. While some went on expeditions, after getting close, none had the nerves to actually set foot on its land. While various adventurers would fail to complete the journey to the island, it would not remain undisturbed forever.    The first group recorded to set foot on the island after the devastation was the Realmsplitters. The captain of the boat that they chartered talked to a historian, and told him several facts that he'd gleaned on the trip back to the mainland. FIrstly was that the hostile creatures on the island were coordinated and seemed to make others in their area stronger. They also discovered that the Colossus protector of the city had been corrupted by the invading force, whatever they were. They hadn't been able to determine the creature's origin or purpose, only that they were powerful, cooperative, and single-minded. They managed to kill what they believed to be the leader of the creatures, but only time will tell if they'll be able to resurge once more.   He also mentioned that they found skeletons in teh streets, looking as if they had been making for the harbor. None of them had even made it close.

Tourism

When it was still a safe place, many came to see the colossus that had been created for the island by the gnomes. It was too big for the jungle, and had difficulty with the massive trees. It was deemed too destructive, so they passed it to their kin that had moved to the island. It was a protector, but this far from threats, it didn't see much use. Mostly, it stood as an enormous statue in the main city, Clarilet, on ever vigilent guard for threats.    After the incident, it wasn't immediately discovered that anything had cone wrong. Eventually, however, it was noticed that travellers that departed for Bloodrock Keep nover returned. As soon as this had been discerned, the Warpstone Operator's Guild instantly ceased all travel until someone could be dispatched to discover the issue.By the time a team had been gathered, it was too late, Bloodrock Keep's warpstone had stopped working. After that, they lost interest in the island, and disbanded all of their efforts to investigate Bloodrock Keep.
