The guardian of the passage between the material plane and the afterlife. It is said that the Raven Queen sorts the departing souls of the newly dead and sends them to the correct plane. It is also said that - sometimes - the Raven Queen keeps the souls of those that interest her.

For the most part, the Raven Queen is there to ensure that each being dies at their appointed time - as dictated by the Fates.

Unlike similar (prime) dieties, the Raven Queen has been known to meddle in mortal affairs. There have been reports of her or her heralds appearing in person and not bothering with the business of omens and dreams. It is said that she appears before great calamities hit. Perhaps she intends to warn them, or perhaps she is merely counting souls.

It is said that the Raven Queen was once a powerful Elven royal who sought to become a deity and fill the void left by Corellon. Some say that she failed to ascend the celestial ranks, instead becoming the dark ruler of the Shadowfell - the corrupted mirror of the Prime Material Plane. Others - at least the Queen's devotees - say that she didn't fail at all...
