Wisps

Wisps are enigmatic and semi-corporeal creatures, thought to be an unusual blend of ice, air, and light, giving them an otherworldly appearance. They are often associated with mysterious phenomena and are revered for their serene and calming presence.

The ice within wisps gives them a translucent, shimmering quality, often compared to a delicate, clear crystal. This crystalline aspect is one of their most captivating features, reflecting a spectrum of colours in the right circumstances. Despite their seemingly delicate form, wisps are remarkably resilient. The air within them contributes to their semi-corporeal form, allowing them to float and levitate with ease. They also move with the wind similar to jellyfish, and prefer to hover in place in a sedentary fashion. The light within them imparts a gentle glow which can vary in intensity and hue, often shifting in response to stimuli.

The physical touch of a wisp is ice-cold. This chilling sensation, despite being so strong, is said to not cause discomfort but rather induce a sense of detached calmness. Their presence is often sought after by weary travellers. They are often considered benign, associated with tranquility and protection. But there are also tales of some becoming hostile and relentlessly pursuing those who offend them.

Some scholars believe they are manifestations of ancient magic, remnants of a bygone era when people had more connection with mystical powers.
