Chitinoids

Chitinoids are insects are a vast and diverse group. They are often overlooked due to their size, but play an important role in ecosystems, and were once far greater. Ancient insects were primordial entities with metallic iron exoskeletons, symbolising strength and endurance. They were dominant creatures and were almost indestructible. Over time, their shells became softer and as such they became weaker and smaller.

Chitinoids are known for dramatic life cycles, undergoing metamorphosis in many cases. Stages can include eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults, and this has helped them become so widespread, despite their very brief lifespans. Hives and swarms behave in unique, mesmerising ways, acting like a single intelligence or form.
