The
Bchoem follow one of two religions, both of which have conflicting core beliefs. Though this dichotomy is the source of much cultural tension--with the Nchirru seeing Wchochem as sentimental fools, and the Wchochem seeing the Nchirru as living hollow and meaningless lives--the Bchoem will still frequently unite against non-Bchoem. Trade between the Wchochem Free Cities and the Nchirru City-States is robust, but personal relationships are often strained.
Nchirru Pragmatism
The city-states of Nchirra teach a doctrine where Bchoem should be self-reliant and empowered. Ethics are utilitarian, and collective welfare takes precedence over individual needs. Trade is a highly respectable profession and a moral duty, and a skilled trader is considered extremely intelligent. Passion and other emotions are obstacles to objectively mastering the important skills in life. They are seen as cold, emotionless, and harsh, but at the same time utterly trustworthy and disciplined. Sometimes drugs are used to suppress emotional states.
Wchochem Spirituality
The free cities of Wchochemchk teach a doctrine where Bchoem should ever seek to enrich their hearts and become more like other humans. Daily meditation is practiced, encouraging introspection and internal exploration, cultivating the heart's growth. Empathy is actively practiced, cultural aspects from other countries are brought in, and they actively seek out potential acts of valour to perform. The free cities are hubs of art, culture, and emotion. Expression is celebrated, and artists and poets are common. They are seen as open-minded, eager, and hopeful, but at the same time unstable and undisciplined. Sometimes drugs are used to enhance emotional states.
