Storm Bison - Nature Spirit

Storm Bison are one of the seven nature spirits of Izan, important to the functioning of weather and ecosystem balance.   Rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes are all the result of the activity of different species of wild Storm Bison. They function as a dyad with Ember Salamanders, quelling periodic wildfires and spurring regrowth cycles. Most species of Storm Bison can fly when the need arises, and they travel in flocks in yearly cycles across Izan to graze. They do not always bring storms, but most often they bring at least light rain.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Storm Bison are bovine creatures with a large hump, a cloudy mane around their neck, crystalline horns, and most often white fur with an electric blue sheen.

Genetics and Reproduction

They are like mammals, and thus they do it like they do on the discovery channel.

Ecology and Habitats

Storm Bison love to chew on wildflowers and prairie grass. Their rains and feces bring periodic growth cycles to the prairies that support their migration across the islands.

Behaviour

Storm Bison are easily startled in the wild, and a stampede can cause more severe storms if they feel cornered or threatened.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Storm Bison have a matriarchal social structure much like elephants.

Domestication

One species of domestic storm bison exist on Willowroot Island, a very old species that is strictly controlled and has been bred to bring much gentler rains and not migrate or fly much further, proportional to their size, than a chicken.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Storm Bison are smart as any nature spirit, communicating with the mystic energy field generated by their crystal horns.
