Grenzal Geographic Location in Channel Cities and World of Ærnth | World Anvil

Grenzal

This is the primary place of residence of the very few Grenzal people in the world. They have lived in this area as far back as any historian can trace. A very large fortress was built over a millennia ago into the natural solid stone arch that connects the Grenzal homeland to the mainland. From this fortress the Grenzal control shipping through the channel here (a small toll must be paid by all ships passing beneath the arch, or the ship is sunk by means of boulders and flaming ballista dropped or shot from above). Some ships captains prefer to go around the large quasi-island, while others would just assume pay the toll and then be able to put into port at the small city for supplies. The fact that this small city is one of only a few easily accessible port cities for nearly 800 miles in either direction along the southern coast of the Éipláh Continent helps to draw these ships in for supplies.   Most of them that deal with outsiders can speak at least a couple of Languages of the Channel Cities & World of Ærnth in addition to their native language, which is also called Grenzal.   Government: Clannish, ruled by the eldest son of each generation of the ruling family since the founding of the nation.   Population: Grenzal: 90%, Common Men: 9%, others: 1%   Grenzal City: Trade Center, Metal Products, Ceramics, Gems, Grains, Ale, Tin, Iron   Population: 2,800 (6,400) [500]
