Whispers of the Moon:

The Celestial Legacy and Fractured Fates of the Lycanthropes

In the world of "Changing Stars," the tale of lycanthropes is woven with the silken threads of celestial tragedy, ancient magic, and the eternal struggle for balance. The lore of weremagic, as it has come to be known, is richly reimagined in this grand tapestry.

The Celestial Calamity and the Birth of Lycanthropy

In times immemorial, the ancient progenitors of werecreatures, noble guardians of the cosmic balance, roamed the celestial realms. Lunyara, the moon goddess, entrusted them with the sacred duty to maintain harmony between the supernatural and the natural. But in the shadow of an age-old conflict, a demon lord, in a vile act of treachery, struck at the heart of this balance.
The demon, a serpentine shadow named Azazyel, sought to disrupt the cosmic order by assassinating the wood elven god Llewellyn, beloved of Lunyara, during an eclipse. In a twisted conspiracy, he corrupted the High Priestess Lyssa of the moon fae, one of the first generation of werepeople. She, deceived by promises of power, transformed into a lupine horror and struck at the elven god, her divinely empowered jaws locking onto his throat and ripping it out.   Yet, the elven god, in his final moments, cursed the assailant with his dying breath raggedly pushing through blood, he ripped his own heart out before dying and crushed it in spite at his assailant, the divine malevelence in this act taking tangible form and bonding with all those who shared the same blood as her, which was most of the werepeople who were now to be known as werecreatures. This curse mingled with Azazyel's venom, leading to the first transformation of lycanthropy – a poignant symbol of the fractured state of werecreatures and their estrangement from their noble origins.

The Moon Children and Their Fractured Legacy

The progeny of the elven god and the moon fae, three in number like the moons above, became the first of the werecreatures. Born of celestial and earthly essence, they embodied the dual nature of their heritage. Their forms were fluid as moonlight, able to shift at will between elven grace and beastly might.   1. Silvaris Moonshadow: The eldest, a figure of wisdom and strength, whose dominion lies over the forest and its creatures. He embodies the spirit of the wolf, fierce and protective.
2. Lunara Starwhisper: The daughter, a mistress of agility and subtlety, ruling over rivers and the creatures of water. Her form is that of the lithe and elusive otter.
3. Terralon Earthmane: The youngest, robust and unyielding, guardian of the mountains and the beasts of the earth. His chosen shape is the bear, embodying power and resilience.
Their children, half elven and half divine, walked the world as the first of the werepeople, beast kin, and animal folk, each embodying a fragment of their parents' vast power.

The Curse of Lycanthropy

The lycanthropic curse, born from the celestial calamity the progenitor of the werepeople is blamed for, caused the moon goddess Lunyara to go mad and retaliate against their whole bloodline with a curse to compliment the one her beloved cast with his dying will that twisted the once noble purpose of these beings. They now walk the world in secrecy and fear, often misunderstood and hunted. No animal folk or beast kin will harbor or protect an infected werecreature, they may kill them rather than let them live. The Werecreatures born that way, that serve the ancient oaths are not treated quite so harshly by their cousin races. In the werecreatures hearts burns the ancient charge of maintaining balance, but the moon madness, a vestige of the dark curse, threatens to overwhelm them.
The lycanthropes, under the fractured banner of their celestial heritage, strive against the tides of madness. Some find solace in the worship of Lunyara, seeking her guidance to control their dual nature. Others, succumbing to the dark curse, fall into savagery and despair, serving malevolent entities.
Others still claim there are lost tribes of werepeople not of Lyssa's lineage that are still out there serving the old charges and pacts between the divine and the spirits. It's said they do not suffer the moon madness, even that they may have a cure for it. None can confirm it so far though.

The Sacred Lands and the Struggle for Balance

In this world, lycanthropes inhabit sacred lands, sanctuaries where they can live true to their nature. These are places of ancient power, where the thin veil between the natural and supernatural allows for a semblance of the harmony they once knew.
Their sacred duty, now a struggle against their own nature, is to cull the excesses of both the supernatural and natural realms. In doing so, they strive to restore the balance that was disrupted by the ancient calamity, a task made all the more arduous by the moon madness that afflicts them.

Conclusion

In the world of "Changing Stars," the lycanthropes stand as poignant figures – guardians of an ancient duty, bearers of a celestial curse, and symbols of the eternal struggle for balance. Their story, rich in mythic resonance and tragic beauty, is a tapestry woven from the threads of celestial drama, ancient magic, and the unending quest for harmony in a world where their people are fractured and hated by their cousin races.
