The Weaver's Spindle Spell in Changing Stars | World Anvil

The Weaver's Spindle

The Weaver's Spindle
Level 1 Illusion
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: V, S, M (a spindle carved from willow bone)
Duration: 1 minute
Description: With a flick of your wrist and a murmured rhyme, you conjure a spectral spindle, its threads woven from moonlight and whispered dreams. As you twirl it with practiced ease, reality around you begins to fray and unravel. Choose an area within 60 feet of yourself that is no larger than a 10-foot cube. The fabric of space within that area ripples and shimmers, becoming distorted and illusory.
Effects:   Illusory Terrain: The chosen area appears drastically altered, creating the illusion of rough terrain, dense foliage, or even impassable barriers. Creatures unfamiliar with the area must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be deceived by the illusion. On a successful save, the creature recognizes the illusion for what it is.
Shimmering Paths: Within the chosen area, you can manipulate the illusion to create illusory paths or bridges that appear solid and traversable. These paths only last for as long as you concentrate on the spell and can be used to lure enemies into disadvantageous positions or create escape routes for your allies.
Fickle Fate: At the end of your turn, you can make an Intelligence (Arcana) check. On a success, you can briefly shift the positions of creatures or objects within the illusionary area (up to 30 feet). This can be used to separate allies from enemies, or to block off key passages. A creature affected by this effect can attempt a Wisdom saving throw on its next turn to disbelieve the illusory shift and return to its original position.
At Higher Levels:   2nd Level: The area affected by the spell increases to 20 feet in radius.
3rd Level: You can create two illusory paths or bridges with this spell instead of one.
4th Level: You can use your reaction to teleport yourself or an allied creature within the illusionary area to any unoccupied space within the area's borders.
  Classes: Bard, Sorcerer, Wizard
Lore: The Weaver's Spindle is a spell whispered of in hushed tones in ancient libraries and dusty workshops. It draws upon the ephemeral strands of reality itself, twisting and manipulating them like threads on a loom. Some say it was born from the dreams of a slumbering god, others claim it was crafted by a mischievous fey trickster. Regardless of its origin, the Weaver's Spindle offers a potent tool for those who understand the art of illusion, allowing them to reshape reality itself in fleeting, but potentially game-changing, ways.
Notes:   This spell balances its versatility with its limited area of effect and its reliance on concentration.
The ability to create illusory paths and bridges can be used creatively to outmaneuver enemies or provide tactical advantages to your party.
The shifting effect adds an element of unpredictability and can be used to disrupt enemy plans.
This spell encourages roleplaying and creative problem-solving, as players can use the illusion to their advantage in a variety of ways.
