Shadowscape Weaver Spell in Changing Stars | World Anvil

Shadowscape Weaver

Shadowscape Weaver
5th-level illusion, psionic
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a shard of obsidian and a wisp of shadow)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
In the stygian tapestry of night and nightmare, "Shadowscape Weaver" allows the caster to knit and mold shadows into a vast, illusory terrain. Upon casting, choose a 60-foot cube within range. This area becomes a labyrinthine shadowscape, a mirage of darkened corridors, looming archways, and cryptic, whispering walls, discernible only to those the caster deems worthy.
To those ensnared, the shadowscape is unsettlingly real. Creatures within the area or those who enter it must succeed on an Intelligence saving throw or believe entirely in the illusion, perceiving it as their surrounding reality. Within this domain of shadows, the caster can manipulate perceptions, creating illusory obstacles, dead-ends, and even phantasmal creatures, each a specter of fear and mystery.
A creature trapped in the shadowscape perceives its environment as entirely different from the actual terrain. Movement becomes a puzzle; every step is uncertain. The caster can, as an action, cause the illusory terrain to shift, disorienting creatures and possibly separating allies.
Moreover, within the shadowscape, the caster can create pockets of deeper darkness. These pockets act as areas of magical darkness, hindering vision even for those with darkvision. Creatures within these pockets are considered blinded with respect to creatures outside them.
Each turn a creature spends in the shadowscape, it can attempt an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC to see through the illusion. On a success, the creature realizes the nature of the shadowscape and can see through the illusion, though the terrain remains visually distorted and unnerving.
"Shadowscape Weaver" is a spell of control and confusion, ideal for ambushes, escapes, or simply to instill fear and hesitation in enemies. It reflects the depth of the unknown, the inherent fear of the dark, and the power of illusion over the mind.
  Classes: Wizard, Sorcerer, Warlock

Note: This spell requires strategic thinking and creativity from the caster, as it offers numerous possibilities for manipulation of the battlefield and psychological warfare. The shadowscape is a realm of fear and phantasm, a tool for those who walk the line between reality and illusion.
