Infernal Bargain Spell in Changing Stars | World Anvil

Infernal Bargain

Infernal Bargain Level 1 Enchantment Casting Time: 1 minute
  Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a drop of your own blood on a small object of value)
  Duration: 1 hour
Description: With a murmured promise and a tempting offer, you weave a subtle pact with the powers of the Abyss. Choose one willing creature within range who understands your words. That creature must make a Wisdom saving throw.
On a failed save: The creature agrees to your bargain, feeling compelled to fulfill a specific task or service you outline within the limits of their abilities. They believe the potential reward, which you present as enticing but vague, outweighs any risk. Once the task is completed, the Infernal Bargain spell ends. On a successful save: The creature resists your influence and the spell ends for them. At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the duration of the Infernal Bargain increases by 1 hour for each slot level above 1st. Additionally, the complexity of the task or service you can request, and the potential reward you can offer, increase alongside the level.
Classes: Warlock (any patron), Bard (College of Whispers), Sorcerer (Shadow Magic), Rogue (Oath of Treachery)
Lore: Whispered in taverns by cunning devils and used by those who tread the path of infernal bargains, Infernal Bargain embodies the subtle manipulation of the Abyss. This potent spell offers temporary assistance or service in exchange for a vague future obligation, allowing you to leverage the allure of infernal power without directly summoning fiends or wielding destructive flames. With its persuasive whispers and potential for both benefit and manipulation, Infernal Bargain demands a cautious mind and a cunning tongue, lest you become ensnared in a pact you cannot fulfill.
  Notes:
This spell offers diverse utility, acquiring assistance, completing tasks, or gaining information. The success of the spell relies on persuasion and deception, encouraging roleplaying and tactical use. The upcasting potential increases duration and the complexity of the bargain, expanding its possibilities. The morally ambiguous nature of the spell and its emphasis on pacts encourage creative roleplaying, strategic decision-making, and exploration of the tempting, yet potentially dangerous, power of infernal bargains.
