Impish Misdirection Spell in Changing Stars | World Anvil

Impish Misdirection

Impish Misdirection Level 5 Enchantment Casting Time: 1 action
  Range: 60 feet
  Components: V, S, M (a tiny imp skull trinket)
Duration: Up to 1 minute (concentration)
Description: With a mischievous grin and a flick of your wrist, you weave a web of infernal trickery through the air. A shimmering aura of illusions and distractions surrounds you, bending reality to your will. Choose one of the following effects:
Diabolical Duplication: You create an illusionary duplicate of yourself within range. The duplicate appears identical to you in all ways, including equipment and spells. You can move the duplicate with your thoughts, and it can perform actions and speak as you do. The duplicate has half your hit points and cannot cast spells or attack. As an action, you can dismiss the duplicate or teleport to its space.
Pandemonium of Pranksters: The air fills with mischievous imps, illusions summoned from your infernal charm. Each creature of your choice within range must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature is charmed by you for the duration of the spell and believes itself to be the target of harmless pranks and illusions. These pranks range from phantom itching to tripping illusions to objects inexplicably disappearing and reappearing. A charmed creature can attempt to break the charm by making another Wisdom saving throw at the end of its turn. On a success, the charm ends for that creature.
Infernal Illusion: You weave a powerful illusion that alters the appearance of a creature, object, or place within range. You can create any visual effect you desire, such as changing the creature's size or appearance, making an object appear larger or smaller, or transforming a location into a different place entirely. The illusion lasts for the duration of the spell and is convincing to all senses except touch. A creature that uses its action to examine the illusion can make an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. On a success, the creature discerns the illusion's nature.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the range of the spell increases by 30 feet for each slot level above 5th. Additionally, the Diabolical Duplication effect can cast spells of 1st or 2nd level (without requiring material components) while the duplicate is active.
Classes: Warlock (any patron), Bard (College of Whispers), Sorcerer (Shadow Magic), Rogue (Oath of Treachery)
Lore: Whispered in taverns by mischievous devils and used by cunning infernal tricksters, Impish Misdirection embodies the playful chaos of the Abyss. This spell creates illusory duplicates, unleashes a wave of harmless pranks, and alters reality itself, making it a tool for deception, distraction, and sowing a touch of infernal mayhem. With its playful trickery and strategic potential, Impish Misdirection demands a light touch and a mischievous spirit, lest your pranks devolve into something far more sinister.
  Notes:
This spell offers diverse control, distraction, and deception options. The choice of effect caters to diverse party needs and roleplaying opportunities. The upcasting potential increases range and allows the duplicate to cast lower-level spells, enhancing the spell's versatility. The playful infernal theme and illusionary nature of the spell encourage creative roleplaying, strategic decision-making, and exploration of the humorous, yet potentially disruptive, power of infernal trickery.
