Chrono-Maelstrom Spell in Changing Stars | World Anvil

Chrono-Maelstrom

Chrono-Maelstrom
9th-level conjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 1500 feet
Components: V, S, M (a fragment of a sundial and a piece of amber that has trapped a small insect)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You create a swirling vortex of temporal energy at a point you can see within range. The maelstrom forms a sphere with a 75-foot radius, lasting for the duration. Within this sphere, time is altered dramatically.
When you cast this spell, you can choose to accelerate or decelerate time for each creature and object in the area. Each creature in the area must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature suffers one of the following effects of your choice:
Accelerated Time: The creature ages rapidly, taking 10d10 necrotic damage, or half damage on a successful save. Additionally, their movements and actions are hastened, giving them an extra action on each of their turns.
Decelerated Time: The creature is slowed as per the "slow" spell. Additionally, they take 10d10 cold damage, or half damage on a successful save, as their metabolic processes are dangerously reduced.
Objects in the area also experience rapid aging or deceleration, potentially deteriorating or freezing in place. Roll the damage dice you would if it were a creature, but now compare it to the object HP, if it does more than half HP of the object, then the object deteriorates or becomes frozen in time for 1d10 years.
As an action on your subsequent turns, you can move the maelstrom up to 300 feet.
  Subclasses: Chronurgy Wizard
Optional/Variant Classes: Sorcerer, Warlock
