Blazing Chariot Spell in Changing Stars | World Anvil

Blazing Chariot

Blazing Chariot
3rd-level conjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a piece of charred wood and a feather from a phoenix)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
Blazing Chariot conjures forth a magnificent chariot of fire, drawn by spectral steeds that gallop through the air, leaving trails of flickering embers. The chariot can carry up to four Medium or smaller creatures and has a flight speed of 60 feet. It emits a radiant aura, shedding bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet, symbolizing its otherworldly origin and its fiery nature.
The chariot not only serves as a mode of transportation but also as a weapon. Any creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of the chariot must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they suffer the wrath of its fiery essence, taking 4d6 fire damage as the flames lick and scorch their flesh. On a successful save, they manage to evade the worst of the flames, taking only half damage.
The chariot is more than mere fire and smoke; it is a manifestation of arcane energy and elemental fury. As such, it can traverse both physical and ethereal planes, allowing passage through obstacles that would otherwise be impassable. However, it cannot cross into other dimensions or planes of existence.
While riding the chariot, the caster gains a commanding view of the battlefield, providing a tactical advantage. The height and speed of the chariot can be controlled with a mere thought, allowing for swift maneuvers and sudden changes in direction. However, should the caster lose concentration or choose to dismiss the chariot as a bonus action, the spectral steeds will let out a final, fiery neigh before dissipating into smoke, leaving no trace of their presence.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the duration increases by 10 minutes for each slot level above 3rd. This extended duration allows for longer journeys or prolonged engagements in combat scenarios.

This spell offers a blend of mobility, offensive capability, and strategic utility, making it a versatile choice for adventurers and conjurers alike. The addition of being able to traverse ethereal barriers adds a layer of utility uncommon in spells of this level, fitting within the power scale of a 3rd-level spell.
