Talent: Scrounge

Not everyone is rich enough or lucky enough to get to play with the latest and greatest inventions. The skill of scrounge is a catch all term for characters who can find items, resources, and other odds and ends either for free or on the cheap. When rolled with Perception, Scrounge allows your character to notice quality or useful items in dumps and junk-piles, yard sales, and second-hand stores. The general rules is that these items are never brand new (although lightly used items are often discarded) and work or construction times are often doubled as scrounged parts must often be jury-rigged to work efficiently. Scrounge rolls may often require Manipulation or Wits rolls as well if the scrounged items are currently owned by a particularly tenacious hoarder or are stored in dangerous or unsafe locations. As a general rule, three or more successes are required to find the item for free, while additional successes will increase the quality or condition of the scrounged item. Even at its best though, a scrounged item will either work only half as long as a new item, or require constant cosmetic and or functional upkeep.

Ability Levels:

0 Abysmal: You always buy the first thing the Etherweb tells you to get because you couldn't spot a good deal if your life depended on it.
1 Novice: Weekend yard sale visitor: You like to rummage through junk piles and antique stores, but you get bored quickly.
2 Practiced: Typical Mechanic: You understand that outer space is a scrap yard and recycling is big business. You can usually make used parts work efficiently.
3 Competent: You are a known haggler and scavenger, and can easily spot the difference between unusable junk and salvageable inventory.
4 Expert: When you see an item your mind instantly starts racing as to how you could use it personally, or who would give you the best price for it.
5 Master: You never have to buy it new. You probably run your own scrap yard, and the Etherweb routinely routes other scavengers to your business.
