Skill: Survival

This skill includes numerous potentially life-saving proficiencies such as finding shelter and food, enduring harsh environments, and making wise decisions in dangerous situations. Such cognitive preparation frequently requires Intelligence + Survival rolls. The Survival skill is also frequently used in extended combat situations and when characters attempt to absorb damage. For combat situations lasting longer than six rounds, all players must roll Stamina + Survival; Difficulty 6 to jockey for initiative order, reflecting the level of exhaustion each fighting character is experiencing. When a character takes damage, a Stamina + Survival roll may be made to negate some of the damage. For Bashing Damage roll [Stamina + Survival difficulty = 6]. For Lethal Damage roll [Stamina + Survival difficulty = 8]. For Aggravated Damage roll [Stamina + Survival difficulty = 9]. Each success cancels out one level of inflicted damage. Keep in mind, that even on a successful soak roll an injured character always takes one level of damage of the appropriate level. (Example: Barry deals 3 levels of Lethal Damage with a shot gun, but Dr. Winston rolls 5 successes on his soak roll. Dr. Winston still takes one mandatory level of Lethal Damage).

Ability Levels:

 
0 Abysmal: The thought of living away from the safety of a bubble-city or space craft terrifies you and you have few emergency contingency plans.
1 Novice: You can survive day trips outside of a hermetically closed bubble without totally freaking out.
2 Practiced: While you don’t have contingencies for every environment, you do quite well for yourself in your home environment where you know the area.
3 Competent: You spend a good deal of time living off the land. Most people who meet you wonder how you do it.
4 Expert: You are well known as an explorer and people needing to travel through your neck of the woods (or hole in the ground) often seek you out as a guide.
5 Master: You may return to the safety of civilization to restock your supplies on occasion, but otherwise you can live comfortably off the grid for years at a time.

Boy Scouts, Spacers, Search and Rescue Teams, Explorers, Mole and Void Gangrel, Gangstas, Arcanes, Hobos.
Sample Specialties:   Emergency Preparedness, Subterranean Survival, Deep Space Survival, Deep-Ocean Survival, Damage Soaking, Combat Stamina, Finding Food, Finding Shelter.   Players may choose a specialty at level 4 and gain a second specialty at level 5.
