Knowledge: Xenobiology

The world of 2840 is populated by many alien creatures. In addition to the dozens of non-sentient extraterrestrial animals and plants that have been discovered, there are sentient species such as the Snydeads (tiny Mole-like beings) and Mulattos (a gene engineered cross bread between humans and Snydeads) who dwell on Mars. There are the Klact’Backta (a designation for several species of sentient plants) which dwell on Jupiter’s Moon of Europa. And there are the Tourians and Prelay-Ju, hostile alien races living in the deepest reaches of outer space that often attack human beings on sight. The Xenobiology Knowledge allows a character to possess an understanding of the anatomy, organic chemistry, and inherent weaknesses of these species. With such information, a character could treat an alien’s injuries, target physiological weak points during combat, and offer the alien nutritious foods in accordance with their normal diet (in the case of the Tourians this is always dangerous since they will eat anything). It is important to note that aliens are classified differently from trans-dimensional beings. Xenobiology only applies to beings native to the Prime Material Plane. All other creatures are deemed “Supernatural” and knowledge of them falls under the Cosmology knowledge. Common information rolls involving Xenobiology including identifying alien life forms, performing first aid on an injured alien creature, and understanding the function of an alien creature within its home habitat. Xenobiology study rolls involve diagnosing and treating an alien illness or pathogen, understanding a complex topic (like the effects of atmospheric nitrogen on a Snydead), and the preparation and performance of a surgery on an alien life form.

Ability Levels:

0 Ignorant: You are blissfully unaware of the types of Alien creatures out there in the cosmos. You can not identify most alien species by sight.
1 High School: You know the basics of identifying an Alien species based on their biological traits and sociological mannerisms. You might have even studied the corpse of an alien up close before.
2 College: You know the basic anatomy markers that separate aliens from humans, and separate one alien species from another. You can identify where an alien's organs are located for medical or combat purposes.
3 Masters: You have started the journey towards becoming a practitioner of Xeno-medicine. You are aware of the types of diseases, pathogens, and parasites that aliens can contract.
4 Doctorate: You are able to practice medicine (or conduct experiments) on some alien species. You have probably specialized in a branch of medicine like alien surgery, alien psychiatry, or alien pathology.
5 Scholar: You are an acknowledged expert in the field of Alien studies. Whenever a new alien species or pathogen is discovered, the Feds call you to take a look at it.
