Humanity Rating

The Humanity stat is an indicator of how morally good your character is. This stat is tabulated by adding your character’s Conscience and Self-Control ratings together producing a number between 1 and 10. For Vampyre characters, this stat is crucial for explaining how close your character is to loosing themselves to the ravenous beast inside them wanting to destroy and devour everything. If a Vampyre character ever has fewer Humanity traits than they have Beast Traits, they descend into a permanent frenzy known as the Wassail—becoming a creature that exists only feed without rational thought.   Humanity traits can be gained or lost based entirely on your character’s roleplaying choices. If you desire a higher humanity rating, the character must actively and consistently pursue actions commiserate with the level of morality they are hoping to achieve. To lose humanity traits, a character must commit acts of evil below their current Humanity rating. The GM will usually make it easier to lose humanity traits than to gain them—after all, bad habits are easier to form than good ones. Use the chart below to determine what sort of criminal (or sociopathic) actions are commonplace for your character based on their Humanity rating.   For non-Vampyre characters, the Humanity stat is also crucial for resisting mind control powers. In general, only truly powerful mind controlling powers can cause a person to go against their personal code of ethics. For example, characters with an 8 in their Humanity rating would not indiscriminately injure a stranger so a power that causes them to attack a stranger automatically fails.
