Vera, warladin guardian

[Prompt: A character who prefers to lurk in the shadows]   Vera had a rough start.   Mela, she was, when she finally got her name. The child was unwanted, neglected, and kept out of view of the public. No respectable noble elf, married to another elf, could be seen raising a clear half-elf child. What would the people think? That he was weak! And so Mela was to languish, a non-person, confined to castle's cobwebs.   The fire that swept through her village was a blessing, really. It gave her an opportunity to escape, and find another life. A new community found her, adopted her, let her one of their own. They taught her how to fight, to defend those you love. They taught her there were those you could love.   Eventually, she received a call away from her adopted home. An angel came to her in a dream, told her of her true heritage: not human, but celestial. The angels were waging war, and they needed all of their own they could get. He blessed her with paladin's powers, and charged her with holy orders to destroy any evil -- any demon -- she found. With her new mission came a new name: Thora.   Many discoveries later, the paladin determined that angel had lied by omission. She was not only angel; she had some demon in her too, and to kill them would be to betray her own. Furthermore, species did not determine one's moral character. The demons were unfairly villainized, and her patron angel was among the aggressors.   What could she do but switch sides? But that meant breaking her oath. And so, Thora walked many weeks with a smoking burn on her soul, a beacon of Evil Alignment for her deed.   Eventually, she found another patron: her grandren, a greater demon who could make a pact with her, for power, and the ability to hide the target on her soul. Thora agreed, made the pact, and became a warlock. She elected to change her own name this time, to Rusta: "the broken." With her pact boons, Rusta became a powerful commander of the infernal army.   Her time with her grandren was the best Rusta had had since her training days. Still, she had not chosen this war, and she was unhappy with her position in it. She didn't want to destroy, even out of revenge for wrongs done to her. She remembered her family, their abiding love. She wanted to return to them, and protect.   So her wish was granted. Her loving patron took Rusta to a strange place to meet a strange person, the Archfey. The wild ancient couldn't take away her covenants, but she could transform them. There was no sin or commitment that the world and its lives could not reshape, given time.   Rusta was taken, and decayed, and metamorphosed, born anew. She was green. She was warlock and paladin of the wild. She was Vera, a guardian.   And with that, Vera returned home. She was too changed to live comfortably with her found family the way she had, but she always remained on the fringes. Now she lurks in the shade of her forest home, keeping a watchful lookout for anything that may seek to harm or destroy the natural cycles of her home. She will protect her forests with the magic and ferocity of the lion-god whenever necessity calls.   But most of the time, she prefers to crouch quietly under a tree.
