Bloom Crowns

[Prompt: A ceremony that represents a transition or a transfer]   During Upwelling, when skies are bright and life runs high, the colonies find themselves with a few free days on their paws. Though the royals have done everything they can to squeeze every bee of labor out of their Paws, sometimes, truly the most productive thing you can do is wait and rest. And play, for even the industrious skitters are playful animals a heart.   During these quiet days, mid-level supes organize an inter-island festival for their Paws. Among the highlight-events is an evolution on the tradition of Crafting Crowns.   Crowncraft began largely among hopeful parents of fawns who may grow to develop horns. Parents and other village skitters would weave an intricate crown out of plants, cloudstone, and other growing things, and place it on the baby's head in hopes of stimulating that coveted horn growth. There was more than a little superstition in it, and for generations it was considered an almost practical measure.   As time went on and skitters gained an understanding of genetics, the uselessness of the crown practice became apparent. But it was tradition, and a delightful one, at that! So they kept it. Gradually, the practice evolved to become part of the Uprising Festival tradition, with hundreds taking part. Skitters from scattered islands would gather to help, lending a crystal or a mushroom to dozens of different crowns. At the end of the event, there would be many dozens of crowns, free for any skitter who did not have one to take, if they so wished.   As for the future of this tradition, we can expect even more evolution. Pioneers in the study of magiphysics and mechanics are coming to understand the underlying physical structures that produce specific magical effects. Nudge a crystal's internal growth into the right path, and you have an efficient focus for a very specific spell. Place that crystal in close proximity to a magic-innate, and they can cast more spells than they're born with. Perhaps, in the future, these crowns will be made with specific suites of spells in mind, and be worn as more than just costume for the festival.
