History

the tragedy of Marrys

During the reign of Erkin I Swan, Emperor 125 - 175 AF, a catastrophe occurred involving mages practicing the forbidden art of blood magic, 140 AF. An act of carelessness wiped out an entire village in the north in a flood of black blood. Some magicians thought it was a bad thing keeping the mages and wizards looked away in the Tower of Maigal by the orders of the first Pope of the newly founded Eroniumian Church in Eldercrest to learn how to control their powers and not be a threat to the society. When they were on the run they tried to make a stand against the Inquisition's knights in order to get some rest in the nearby village of Marrys, but a miscalculation and a magical experiment went awry in an unstable explosion of dragon blood. The dragon blood, toxic to humans and elves, melted husbands, wives, and children, all innocent people alongside with the mages and the inquisition knights. As a response of this tragedy, the anti-magical politician Kerb Bertos, personly lost family in the accident became anti-religious and formed the Dalemen Smith's Guild to condemn this "act of magical and religious terrorism". Thus was Dalesborg built right on top of the ruins of the village of Marrys. But during that time it was called City of Marrys. Dalemen was originally a libel talking of people rejecting the Eroniumian Church in Eldercrest and their ideas of religion. "Dalemen" were often at this time charged with heretics, and sentenced to death, and seldom able to establish footage in Eldercrest. the Emperor mocked the Dalemen Smith's Guild and renamed their city to Dalesborg. But their advancement in technology was nothing they could ignore as a benefit to themselves. From the inside, the Trots'Lac family, loyal to the new Imperial bloodline, infiltrated the Dalemen Smith Guild and worked up in the ranks, scheming to make the Guild more positive to religion. Jeremy Trots'Lac became Guild Master and reforged the guild and their politics, and the Trots'Lac family finally gained the Letters of Nobility as a reward bringing Dalesborg to its knees.

War with the Elves

When the first Elven tribe came to Eldercrest by 250 AF, it was within the domains of the House of Trots'Lac. Furious of the intrusion the House of Trots'Lac were permitted by the emperor, Erlov Swan who reigned 240 - 260 AF, to eradicate the inferiors the Dalemen Smith's Guild. Despite their technology and the help from the other houses, the Elven tribes were never truly defeated. They simply didn't die easily. The war continued until 337 AF, four generations of emperors had gone by. The new, young emperor Aglev Swan started in secret to make an end of the brutal war in diplomacy. But it took him years before even getting one of his own heralds with the message to the Elves. He waited in total 13 years before the Elves agreed to diplomacy to make an arrangement. This was an insult to the House of Trots'Lac who had lost their only available land for farming. Months of discussions finally made the ultimate arrangement: Trots'Lac gave up the claims of the disputed areas and in return, the newly formed House of Adams agreed to trade grain for tools.

Geography

Dalesborg is located on the slope between two mineral-rich mountain chains that meet in the north.

Defences

Dalesborg has no city walls, but the passage between the mountains of smiths is heavily guarded and has walls with gates on both front and back. The mountains are so high and steep that they could in themselves be counted as walls. No one can climb for them and those who is stupid enough to try will lose their foothold and met their death on the ground after the fall. The only road to Dalesborg goes through the Northwest Sovereign Road, which through the Dalesborg Passage eventually also leads to Storvik, the port city which belonged to Trots’Lac's domains. Above the high elongated gates of the Dalesborg Pass, the words are capitalized: WE BUILD UP.
