Devil Chills

Devil's are a plague on the mortal plane as it is, not they make it worse by bringing their hellish diseases here. Beware their bite. It has a higher infection rate then a claw. Maybe just avoid them in general.

Transmission & Vectors

This disease is carried by various devils, including but not limited to accuser devils, edavagors, barbazus, and pit fiends. It is passed on through contact with the devils' natural attacks. While it is able to be passed on through the claws of the devils or their other natural based attacks it is through the bite of some of these devils that ensures the mortal victims become infected. It is also carried by pit hags.   An infected mortal can pass it onto other mortals via contact or shared fluids.   There is an incubation period of 1 hour.

Causes

Devils have been hardened over time to resist many dieases, illnesses and damage types. This makes them the perfect carriers for an illness that does not affect them onto the material plane.

Symptoms

  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness (1d4 Strength damage every day it is not resisted but never falls lower then 1)
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Hallucinations
  • Paranoia
  • Unable to move
  • Death (Due to being unable to move and dying via starvation if no one is looking after them)

Treatment

The best treatment is to see a priest or cleric to have the disease removed. Until this happens the strength damage cannot be healed. Once the disease is removed the recovering patient heals one score point per day until back up to their normal level. A high priest or cleric can use a Greater Restoration to speed up this process.   However, that being said the disease can be resisted with two successful consecutive Con saves DC 14.

Prognosis

It is not a fatal diease. It is however fatal if the victim is not looked after as they will soon become unable to look after themselves.

Prevention

Keep a devil at weapon length to prevent them using their bite or claws on you.

Cultural Reception

In Rjuven cultures people are killed rather then cared for with this disease due to the connection to infernal beings. Their fear causes them to condemn the victim rather then help.   In Anuire cultures people are killed rather then cared for with this disease due to the connection to infernal beings. This is believed to be due to witchcraft, in which case the victim deserves to be killed for breaking the law.   In Brecht and Vos cultures the victim is cared for and helped. Those the Vos do not always have the means to care for the sick and do not really care for weakness.   In Khansi culture it depends on how the victim became infected. If they didn't summon the devil and were attack, they will be helped. There will be a ritual afterwards to make sure that the person hasn't been mentally affected by the devil.
