Xaos
A Parting Gift from the Patrons
Xaos is the supernatural energy that binds and connects all Kynd on Centrilian. For the vast majority, this is a warmth, or comfort deep within themselves that reminds them of The Patrons their connection to those that created Centrilian. For some, Xaos is an energy that can be tapped into, drawn upon, to influence and manipulate themselves, others, and the world around them. This harnessing can take a multitude of forms. The Martials of Wandering Hand use their Xaos to practice Mutamorphosis, or the ability to change their physical form into that of another Kynd. The SoothSingers of the distant northern temple of Trellian Naught tap into their Xaos to peer through the veil and percieve what might become, if those involved stay the course that is. Runewrits across the continent of Torentia work on commission to take ordinary pieces of armor, weapons, and jewelry and imbue them with Xaosian Script, granting supernatural abilities to the items and those who possess them (or are possessed by them).
For some Kynd, their access to Xaos is not a choice made but a natural predilection. Striders of The Roving Wildlands can track Usuran through four feet of snow, from two days travel behind. Machinists that follow the Path of The Tinkerer regularly and unknowingly draw upon their Xaos for inspiration in the crafting of new, and usually dangerous, technology. The unfortunate few cursed with the affliction known as Xaosanthia (or Chaos Disease in the common tongue) will have fits of uncontrollable bouts of sorcery, leading to random, often times dangerous magic.
The Kynd with the most prolific understanding and control of their Xaos typically become Channelers. These Kynd have intimate and ultimate controll over their Xaos and can use it to create, manipulate, alter, and destroy the world around them. Some choose to focus on elemental channeling, summoning devastating storms with the wave of their hand, launching scorching flames from the point of a finger, whispering to a coursing river and watching it freeze solid in an instant. Others focus on psychic channelling, rifling through your enemies mind and finding their deepest, darkest fears and making them see that scene before their eyes, charming that stubborn guard that just insists on blocking your way, or even condemn an enemy to a lifetime of madness. There are countless avenues in which Channeler's focus their strengths in the harnessing of Xaos.
