Martial

Of Focus and Precision

As the elderly man makes his way down the bustling street, the crew readies their trap. As the man slowly walks past the alleyway, the young thief pulls his blade, presses the point into the elderly mans ribs and whispers "Into the alley, or I spill your guts.". The man wordlessly steps into the alley and takes in his predicament. Four more men are gather around him with various small blades readied. "I have nothing of value for you, and no one will miss my presance so this is a pointless endeavor" the man says calmly to the gang around him. "We'll see about that" one mugger says as he closes the gap towards the old man. In a flash, the approaching muggers knife clatters to the ground followed closely by the mugger himself, bleeding profusely from the nose. Shock freezes the other thieves in place and the old man gives them a look that says "What happens next is up to you...". Like most street thieves, they are overconfident fools, and they rush the man. It only takes a handful of seconds for the Martial of the Shadow Palm to leave them blodied and bruised in the alleyway. Hopefully they learn from this mistake...

Precision Combat in the form of Grace

Those that achieve the rank of Martial in one of the five monastic traditions of Centrilian are widely considered to be some of the most dangerous hand-to-hand combatants on the planet. Each of the the traditions focuses on different techniques for harnessing the Xaos, the energy connecting all living things, and using it as a fuel and focus in combat. Acolytes (those that have not yet reached the rank of Martial) in each tradition train and study while balancing the duties of keeping the Hall they call home running smoothly.

Each monastic tradition has a Court, and each Court is made up of seven individuals who make rulings and preside over the traditions momentum during their tenure. The graduation from Acolyte to Martial is up to the Court and must be a unanimous approval.

Purpose

Each tradition has it's own function in the world and Martials of each tradition are charged with carrying out that traditions values, objectives, and agendas in Centrilian.

Social Status

Most Martials are regarded with respect and sometimes fear. They are highly trained and dangerous. Some choose to operate in anonimity and those that choose this often traverse Centrilian unnoticed.
