Hell Serpents

The artificial Beasts created by The Blackened Horde as living weapons for sieges, ambushes, and even defense. Taking the form of giant armored snakes with horns, Hell serpents are powerful creatures that serve their Wraith masters with unnatural strength and magic integrated into their flesh. Where they stalk, destruction is sure to follow.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hell Serpents are large snake-like creatures with armored bodies. Their heads have a shield-like shape to them, similar to the cobras of the western region of The Southern Half. Large horns protrude from this structure and allow for the channeling of basic, yet powerful Wraith magic. Their eyes are red crystals that allow the Hell Serpent to see through objects and detect magic.

Genetics and Reproduction

Hell Serpents are completely artificial. They are created by the Wraiths of The Blackened Horde as living weapons and cannot reproduce.

Growth Rate & Stages

As they are a created species, Hell Serpents are created at an intended size and do not grow beyond it.

Ecology and Habitats

Hell Serpents do not seem to react adversely to any environment except when they are cut off from their energy sources. They have been observed fighting in frozen bodies of water, hiding in lava to ambush enemies, and even in the vacuum of space.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They subsist on energy provided by their Wraith masters. This can be distributed from nearby Wraiths or from structures built to supply it from strange distribution points. These can take the form of burning pyres, glowing sigils, or rune engraved floors.

Social Structure

Hell Serpents form pairs that work together to kill targets. This kind of bond is peculiar, considering Hell Serpents do not have genders and cannot reproduce. It doesn't seem to be the kind of bond that animal mates have either. It seems more likely that it is a behavior ingrained in them by their creators to make them more effective killers.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The crystal-like eyes of a Hell Serpent are quite valuable. Lenses cut out of these eyes can be used to detect life, magic, and even the mood or emotions of others, depending on the quality of the eye and further adjustments made with magic.

Hell Serpents are deployed at the whim of their Wraith masters, meaning they follow them to war and defend territory captured by their forces.

Average Intelligence

Due to their designed nature for war, Hell Serpents are able to distinguish between prey and allies and follow basic instructions. Though they are not quite as intelligent as humans.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The large red crystals take the place of where eyes would be, are in fact enchanted jewels that allow the serpent to see through objects and detect the use or presence of magic. These eyes are particularly useful for ambushing prey from out of sight or underground. They also possess keen olfactory senses and function much like a common serpent does.

As a weapon of war used by the forces of the Destroyer, the Divine Host has targeted them as creatures that exist only to further the destruction of the world.
