A common way to contract this is through contact with corrupted creatures or essence extracted from these creatures. Other ways to contract this disease is to be exposed to a powerful artifact of Oflycus or be the victim of a ritual or spell.

Symptoms

First the individual will feel especially weak in their mind and body. The second stage is the further decay of the person's mental state, becoming confused and unfocused. Other effects can be loss or warping of memory. The third stage is the partial integration into the ethereal plane which leaves the victim vulnerable to many threats, while also losing of all emotion and desire.

Treatment

Through magical means the disease can be delayed or cured. Nothing short of arcane or divine means will slow the progress of this disease.

Prognosis

After enough time has past Oflycus will attempt to take control of the victim. The host will also eventually show physical effects, the skin taking a yellow tinge, frame become lithe and thin, and eyes taking on a bloodshot green color. When this stage is complete it is especially hard to reverse, requiring an exorcism of some sort. If the body is slain, the soul of the individual is captured by Oflycus.
It has been recorded that there are different strains of this disease of the soul, which are hard to identify. It has also been noted that unless someone witnesses the steady decline of the infected individual, then it can be immensely hard to diagnose someone afflicted with this spiritual disease.

Prevention

Rare amulets blessed to prevent disease can prevent this infection, as well as anything that can prevent possession.
