Vaagrik's Axe

This greataxe is made from polished bronze, with anitech stators along the haft and at the base of the blade.  No records exist of its creation, but its first recorded use was during the battle of Step Gold God where it was wielded by Vaagrik, a hobgoblin warlord who had been hired by the Ochre Gnomes.  Likely assembled from scrapped or stolen anitech parts by the Ochre Gnomes as many various nonconventional anitech weaponry comes from this time and place and history.    Vaagrik would go on to be a hero in the local area, leading his warband to the very steps of Cavaliea before being lost in time during the void collapse.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

This weapon functions as a Greataxe +2 when powered with a soul orb.   Additionally, while charged, when you attack a creature that has at least two limbs with this weapon and roll a 20 on the attack roll, you cut off one of the creature's limbs. A creature is immune to this effect if it is immune to slashing damage, doesn't have limbs, has legendary actions, or the GM decides that the creature is too big for its limbs to be cut off with this weapon. Such a creature instead takes an extra 4d8 slashing damage from the hit.   The wielder of any anitech weapon may soul charge the damage dealt with any blow. On a hit, they may drain the soul orb powering the weapon and add one soul die to the damage rolled. Vaagrik's Axe also forces creatures struck by blows empowered this way to either be shoved 5 ft or knocked prone (wielder's choice).  The creature struck is not shoved or knocked prone if they succeed on a Strength saving throw with a DC = 8+wielder's proficiency bonus+wielder's str bonus. Creatures larger than Large cannot be knocked prone but can be shoved.
