Forest Gnomes

Forest Gnomes have always had a deeper connection to both the Shadowfell and the Feywild compared to their other gnomish cousins.  They prefer to dwell in burrows and forests, with communities that can sprawl through undergound warrens to tree top cities and everything in between.  While all gnomes have a predilection to illusion magic, Forest Gnomes tend to grasp its intricacies at an early age, so that even the most magically disinclined gnome is capable of illusions that will astound the average demihuman.  
Forest Gnomes were often spared the incursions of both empires by simply remaining out of sight, however it was also not uncommon for settlements to be discovered and either enslaved or destroyed.  This makes Forest Gnomes even today still wary of outsiders, and many prefer the companionship of animals over other non gnomes.
Most Forest Gnomes think that elves have lost their way, and no longer swim in the weave as they should because they constantly try to harness it for power instead.
