Dark Elves

Dark Elves are the remnants of an ideological and cultural rift between the first elves.  When one sect of elves was taken by the Dragonlord Kras'ka'ka'thal and handed off to his offspring for generations, the cruelty, malice, and constant dark environs caused the Elves there to absorb the ambient magic.  Instead of learning high arcana, they ended up learning reflexive magics of the dark.
This cruelty was never forgotten, nor was it copied.  When the Drogonstall Empire began to fall, it was the Dark Elves who quietly used their arts to slip their yoke, where they retreated and tried to build a new society.  This independent act brought them at odds with the Imperial Elves, who still view them as traitors to their kin even today.
Many Dark Elves pay deference to the goddess Ute, seeing in her their own struggle.
