Temple of the Goddess

Structure

The Temple of the Goddess is led by the Queen, also called the High Priestess.

Culture

Worshippers of the Goddess believe that demons, or Daeva, were created to consume the sins of humans in order to either cleanse or punish them. There are two sects of the temple. There is the sect that believes in cleansing and purification of sins, and another that believes in punishment for sins. The latter is a more prominent sect in the modern day, as the current reigning demon queen does not make her disdain for humans a secret. In the extreme end of the sect, there are those that believe in either the eradication of humans or the subjugation of humans under demon rule. It is rumored that the extremists have the favor of the Queen herself.

Public Agenda

The public agenda of the temple is to spread the word of the Goddess using the Queen as a conduit to speak directly to the Goddess. The words of the Queen are treated as if they are spoken directly from the Goddess herself.

Assets

The temple has amassed a great many relics over the years that are believed to have been blessed by the Goddess herself.

History

After the Cataclysm, the religion gained more foothold in the overworld and spread beyond the underworld. There are those who believe the Cataclysm was divine intervention from the Goddess who tired of the humans' constant war and destruction.

Mythology & Lore

Demons are the first magical lifeforms of the earth, born to balance the overwhelming sins of humanity. As such, some believe demons are superior beings, divine executioners of the Goddess' will.

Sects

  • Temple of the Supreme Goddess - Those that believe that demons are the rightful rulers of the earth, and that humanity should be subjugated or eradicated under demon rule.
  • Temple of the Pure Goddess - Those that believe that the goddess is a force of cleansing and purification. They believe that using their power to feed on the sins of humanity is an act of purification and will cleanse the humans of their sins, making them better for their intervention.

"The goddess made us in her image to balance the sins of humanity. We are her judges, the jury, the executioners of her will."
