Elo

The ancient settlement of Elo was created by the Cordziz or angels in 1364 ADR. Built on the southern bank of the Zodinu river on a natural rise. The location afforded the angels close access to the fields along the Zodinu and proximity to the flocks of wild animals they herded. Elo quickly rose to prominence as a meeting place for many powerful angels from the first generation often led by Abatur.   The angels had been living in small bands during the past eight centuries often traveling great distances over Casus Simtura. Over these vast years a number of the angels decided they would prefer to live in closer groups, eventually founding and erecting the settlement. This first settlement of the angels which they named Elo, or The First in celestial. Built of wood and clay or carved from large blocks of stone. Unlike later settlements of mortal species the angels had little need for food, clothing, or shelter. The lack of need did not however stop them from building grandiose structures filled with finery.   Abatur having been first among the Cordziz became the ruler of Elo, taking the title of king. King Abatur was fair-handed for the angels needed few instructions to administer the town or manage daily life. Over time however Abatur grew bored, the king set forth to create and reinforce order among the angels. He created a Council of Angels that would debate new laws and create a fixed hierarchy among the ranks as new angels were born and came of age. At the start the king and council focused on creating a body of laws to ensure that theft and violence were punished. Next they focused on the orderly duties and administration of the kingdom. for example, in preparation to build a second settlement they would name Viu. It was decided that only those angels of the first three generations would be allowed to live in Elo and any later generations would be commanded to move south to Viu. These administrative edict made by King Abatur grew more cumbersome and authoritative each year.   The greatest building was the palace of Abatur, named by the angels as their first or King of the Angels. The palace was a grand stone pyramid with no steps, near the top was a hall leading from the outside with a small landing. The angels were easily able to fly to the landing space to enter the palace and its design kept the water and wind from interfering with the internal rooms. The grand hallway opened unto a massive tiled room where the angels would meet with Abatur who was seated in a gilded throne. In the center of the room was a shaft that ran to the base of the temple which the angels could use to access the lower bedrooms, kitchens, library, and sitting rooms within the palace.
