3. Ashelae, 24,547 - 15th Month in Qabarat
First day back at the weaponyard, and Master Evauess drilled us hard. Happily, our work while qualmlock bestood well, and we outcame merely breathlessly weary and without doleful wrack. Afterward, Sievae, although she became the midst of the yardfellows’ worshipful mindfulness, behaved herself and did nothing to dare Master Evauess’s doomright. Vosaeth also came and watched, whom I beheld with a reckful grin and antennae waving thoughtfully. When I asked what beminded, she answered I look strong, but with one rede: ~O’nae hizelis adenya risassya Damaere,~ - “You need to remind how to fight Damaya.”
Also today we got news from Ofu-Laubu’s embassy: Qabarat and Ofu-Laubu have yaysaid that the elfgate will open aftomorrow on the Fifth. Since that is the day ere market day, it makes good thought. Yet recklessly, this startled a forereadying flurry within the household, forwhy Vosaeth’s house had first wished to stay in Qabarat a day or two instead of a whole month, and without their steeds. I also understand how Vosaeth feels after being caught so long in a city, without the moor’s openness (the same doom she had cursed Byreath). She will eagerly go home.
My oathsister and I found hap at slumbertide to lie together with our brother-sons between and talk, which deed we have ever loved. She told how she misses Lady Vei her mother, and sorrowfully since she grows old. That thought, since her mother welcomed me so dearly as another daughter, sorrows me too. We also spoke of Lady Marauqereth, her growing kindred, and the kinship she has unspokenly acknowledged with both our houses. I wit a bond growing between her and Vosaeth, and bless it. When Vosaeth spoke of going back to Lea, however, I asked how she will settle between the two cities, forwhy they have not always been friendly. In answer, my oathsister smiled: ~O’heali hoeif heienazere qoanassere. Yei vi seholdis.~ - “I reckon I must become a peacebode. So you taught me.” I wryly laughed, forwhy I beheld my deeds with Vosaeth little peaceful and we had ever seemed to ride to war together. Yet then my laughter shifted to tears, since I shamefully felt unworthy of her worship. Already I miss her.
5. Ashelae, 24,547 - 15th Month in Qabarat
Today we got leave to host Vosaeth’s house and Lady Tiril to the elfgate, along with her Highness Lady Nisaueth. There we blessed farewell to our northern kin and friends with tearful kisses, and with last hugs to the babes. Then they strode through the gate’s shimmery rift and were forgone, back beyond the Retaea and Shemez, more than thousand sem away. We beheld ourselves lonelier.
Lady Nisaueth asked whether I worry for Vosaeth my oathsister. ~O’ilaeoni yi ahyelve,~ - “Less than I might,” I answered. Forsoothly I miss my bold wrathful wifelove and the blithe wise she seeks wisdom. So many times I want her reckless frankness as a sheerer, more forthright heart.
Elsewise, Her Highness asked whether I have further thought on Lady-Captain Marauqereth’s boon toward the Formian War. I answered much of what Her Ladyship had told has proven true, although the snaresome riddle ever lies in shunning curse for outspeech against the war. Then I asked what rightly is Ofu-Laubu’s stallsome mind. Her Highness answered that, as known, Ofu-Laubu has withheld all troops and tithes, which has rankled both Qabarat and the broader alliance. Yet Her Hallowness the Queen has not lawfully deemed against. Even so, she naughtily added, I had doubtlessly heard whisper the lady-captain owns Her Hallowness’s goodwill, and so long as Lady Marauqereth stands against the war, things will unlikely shift.
I bemarked Ofu-Laubu straddles a queer evenstead. Lady Nisaueth answered: ~Hei urolla,~ - “But behoofsome,” to which I asked how so, since, although I thankfully love Ofu-Laubu’s friendship, that city is small against Qabarat’s greatness, whom I feared might wield its strength and sway against its northern sister. Her Highness naysaid not but said Qabarat still needs their silver and tin, and what do I think Qabarat loves more than winning? To this thoughtful riddle I had no answer else.
Afterward, Semuane boded that we should meet Hauronil, Indith, and Leiendil at a danceyard in the Elf-Farthing, which we beread as high wooship. I shrive worry at trial to follow elflove’s manifold daintiness, wherein I have ere missed. Yet I cannot naysay the thrill.
Afterword
Yesternight late we came home, after already Midwatch, which had me and Remaue sorely missing our children. Yet the nighttide had outcome fair, and we rued not.
The danceyard we sought lay on the Elf-Farthing’s edge, unfar from the crowdstrife’s stead that had so misluckily smitten at Motorae Eve. Yet at the gateway we forecaughtly met wardens, whom Semuane told we were forelooked and gave Leiendil’s name, whereat they inlet us. Inside, the danceyard looked little unlike other elfyards, with the same mindful dandy shrubs and blossombeds under weeping treeboughs. Yet the main shedness outstood as a broad flat mossy midst, which was first empty. Off unseen song played.
We soon found our elven friends sitting atop a stone, and who risingly greeted us. All too swifty Kaure and Hauronil clove. Leiendil kissed my belly until ashamedly I bade him stand. Under wooship’s wont, but knowing our love already shared, Semuane as middlebode deemed Leiendil should woo Remaue, and Indith and I. Remaue, although she giggled wickedly, alet this Elven couthness and mildly took Leiendil’s hand to her bosom. Indith again showed ereyesterday’s shyness and leaned yieldingly against my breast while my arm hugged. None recked Kaure and Hauronil, bride and First Man, whom we forelooked to behave, as so heathenly quoth Remaue: ~O’Shota yi-seilassa seura shidassura,~ - “As Shota wishing to lay eggs.” This word Indith found so funny she chuckled until her belly hurt and I must uphold her from toppling.
Soon began the dance-show, whose first set beheld a lone dancer, in the free but highly hintsome wise the Elves name ~Pennasaer~ - lonely tale - wherein one must read the meaningfulness from the dancer’s stands, leaps, and mood instead of through mindshare. I did my best while watching, until something in the dancer’s face struck me akith. Yet befuddledly his eartips were so cunningly wrought that they seemed flesh instead of the wontsome silvercraft Hauronil wore. Then I forsoothed him Riardon, the Motorae’s Elfqueen! Wonder overtook at the winsome elflikeness he had wrought and his dance’s skill, everywise truly nimble. Afterward between sets, Riardon outcame and greeted us, and also kissed Kaure right friendly. In a bold mood (though I dared not sing), I outspoke a short Elvish praise-poem, which I bethought small. Yet the others beweightily cheered as if I had done nobly. ~Seholaze larya lathya-shyale,~ praised Hauronil with a kiss Elvenwise to my hand: “My teacher shows her skill.” Though I felt unworthy, the goodwill warmed me.
Indith beseeched to stroll the outer yard when the next dance started. She held my hand while we did so, and named the blossoms, their bloomtides, and meaningfulness, some whereof I knew. Yet an inkling took that she wanted more. So I stilled us, stood brow to brow, and reached antennae. With a slight settle I brought her into ~saiahi~ - mindshare. So cloven, she merely stood awonder at the deed. Her mind stroked mine, moreso tasting my thoughts than reading, witting my heart, my own thrill, my shyness matching hers. She named me awesome, while I fearfully held her mind, like a wild bird in hand that might flee at the slightest shake. Then Remaue and Leiendil found us, where my wifemate laughingly chided us behaving like meek schoolmaids. I answered I would not elsewise yield offthank to Indith, and furthermore the danceyard’s couthness would not alet. Wickedly Remaue offnodded to where Kaure and Hauronil stayed, hugging tightly. ~Limaf o’aeashoni hisae fodi,~ she said knowingly: “I say couthness is already broken.”
Together we foursome reached the two lovers. Remaue brooked a kiss to come between. Then she headed Kaure to Indith and Leiendil and beseeched them to woo our wifemate. Grinning shyly, Indith strode to Kaure, took her shoulders, and stooped to lay an elfkiss on her brow. She stayed while Kaure’s antennae tips sought her back and sighed at their light stroke.
As Hauronil upheld their mindshare, Indith straightened with tears in eye and squeezed Kaure’s hands. Then she began a song, which throat’s sheer fairness thrilled, and of the kind named ~Pengaval~ in Elvish - love-worship. Leiendil also clove, and they together sang Kaure’s worship while she blushed until purple. After the song, Kaure lay head upon Indith’s breast, who again lifted our Korashe’s head. They shared a moodsome kiss I felt from throbbing antennae wholly to toes curling. They then halted and stared in love’s awe. Leiendil neared arear Kaure. He lay slight fingers on her shoulder, at whose touch she shuddered, and again as they slid down her arms. I well knew her fear of a man’s touch, even an Elf’s, but also her thrill. Between these lovers, Kaure’s eyes sought Hauronil, seeking blessing, and maybe thoughtlessly dreading, which he hastily forgave.
At last Indith likewise so shuddering withdrew. Leiendil, although he still held Kaure, stilled while his wifemate leaned against him, eyesomely seeking looseness.
Remaue mildly took our wifemate’s arm, warily looked about the danceyard, and then led us all to seek a likely stead among the outer trees. We found a hidden nook, into which she hastened Kaure. Then she likewise shoved Hauronil within. ~O’heshi-ziae,~ - “Serve her swiftly,” she bade. Then we fivesome misblithely stood ward at the nook’s mouth against watchers while we overheard hasty rustling. Leiendil fetched blossomwine, Remaue and Semuane flirted, and I nestled with Indith. Then we Lashunta strove to still our lewdly humming antennae while Indith leaned upon my breast and gritted teeth, even so upcaught in mindshare’s mood until we prayed the end ere anyone bewared our sin.
We gave the lovers a right breathtide to reshape clothes ere they staggered out, a misgiving mood still wafting from their antennae. Indith wearily dropped from mindshare, whereat I kissed her. Then she headed to Leiendil and bade they should go home swiftly, while likewise Remaue and I upheld Kaure between and, with Semuane leading scout, hustled her from the danceyard.
