A Castrovel Adventure: Part 5, Chapter 45

~O'mei, shi dami Hemnadurathae, assama Vaeol-Ilea eiesya roma arilassya adenyaru vehaearu.~ (In which, under Qualmlock’s idleness, Lady Vaeol’s house let their thoughts turn in odd directions.)

From the Daylog of Vaeol-Zheieveil Yaranevae be’Son
8. Zielae, 24,547 - Qabarat; 7th Day of Qualmlock
Today we oversaw bow-drill in the neighboryard, with heed that none shoot the nieghbortree, and had good watch. The sideshrouds we rigged worked well and let no mishap. Tae and Less took lead and oversaw. Misluckily, too many arrows broke, and likely we cannot do it again.   Over the last few days, Hauronil has begun not donning his eartips. He works among the midyard’s shrubs and blossomworts wearing a loincloth instead of Elven gossamer. When he speaks Lashunti, he drawls our inborn Son lilt. I found hap to ask his welfare. When I asked whether anything wanted or bothered, he answered that, although he forelooked not fulsomeness, it felt good to be ataken as himself. I bowed and hugged him. ~Kaurrye vosya-shyaldis. Oyei samaea-rualve,~ I spoke: “You have made Kaure happy. For that I am thankful.” Then I blessed him Elvenwise, which he took in kind.
  10. Zielae, 24,547 - Qabarat; 9th Day of Qualmlock
Today the Matronhood yelled the city shall half-lift the qualmlock in two days on chosen farthings where the Burning Pox has ebbed. Samely to yesteryear, tomorrow folk with right sake may beseech a thoroughfare-writ at the farthing-gates. Also, the farthings may hold small and tightly dightened markets, but nevertheless welcome. On this news, both Hauronil and Meiss will tomorrow show before the matrons. While we have all gladdened of their hereness under qualmlock, they owe duties elsewhere and yearn to go home.   Also came treeword from the Embassy: we need not beseech thoroughfare but may wait until qualmlock’s end, which foretells soon enough. We thank the gods for small boons.
  11. Zielae, 24,547 - Qabarat; 10th Day of Qualmlock
For whatever worth, good or bad, the matrons forbade Meiss’s and Hauronil’s beseeches. Thus they must stay more days, although the nowward wisdom stands that, unless some sorrowful new outbreak, qualmlock shall lift by Treesong, and little woe.   I watched Kaure and Sievae talking in the midyard about their manloves’ lengthened stay, with rather ownersome mirth, I dare tell. Surely their wifely pride has grown, and in Kaure’s sake her self-faith, not that I would lessen Hauronil’s or Meiss’s hearts. I know Hauronil has traded often treeword with Indith and Leiendil at the blossomyard, wherein he has sought their welfare. To soothe his worry, I hugged him and bade: ~Vosya-shyae eisrye o’tolloni-ilae, oe sasra hirualf o’hieshi-doebilassasra,~ - “Gladden my wifemate a little longer, and we shall give you back rather unworn.” ~Dei dodebilassasra? O’nae ushivas!~ he answered: “Unworn? I will need a rest!” Shamefully I laughed.
  12. Zielae, 24,547 - Qabarat; 11th Day of Qualmock
We welcomed market, even so small and the wares dear, with a neighborhood dancemeal. The Burning Pox has luckily spared us. Yet now all hold breath, bewaring hint of any new outbreak. ~O’noa-shei di allaea-shyalya,~ - Under the gods, may it not happen.
  14. Zielae, 24,547 - Qabarat; 13th Day of Qualmlock
Weapondrill today after yesterday’s fird. I shrive Semuane, Istae, and Vosaeth have behooved my old tricks against me, teasing I have become overwontsome fighting Korasha. Although they are not wrong, if I catch them near enough, I strongly thrash them. Yet it truly bears thought how I must ready in the next few months ere Motorae and the City Games. Hopefully I may soon talk with Master Evauess.   A dear whit: Aeosel has spoken his first word~ Erenow he toddled to my knee and most truly said: ~A Mae!~ I wept and proudly bore him to Kaure, whomto he spoke: ~A Qau,~ which is nigh enough, and whereat she took him from my arms and tossed him aloft. Then to Remaue he said: ~A Re!~, whereat she kissed him and said: ~Siea. Ve are!~ - “Yes. I am a hero!” To her I answered he had said: ~A rei~ - “Oh, war,” since she is even so wrathful. She laughed and threatened she would so rightfully wrack me.   I next found Erymi and Oshis, whom I told this gladness, and then eagerly bade Aeosel speak again. Shyly he looked at Erymi, and then repeated: ~A Mae,~ whereat she wept. Then he grinned at Oshis and said: ~Osh!~ His father swept him from my arms, tickled him in a breathless Korasha hug, and then bore him flying overhead through the midyard. I merely rue my son grows so soon.
  15. Zielae, 24,547 - Qabarat; 14th Day of Qualmlock
Today while seer-drill with Taiase, we overtalked the aiudara elfgates, the mighty weirdness that quickens them, and which makes fare canny over not only the whole world but also between worlds, as we know from the Kyonin Gate in Sovyrian and the newly learned aiudara in Loskialua (though we have only heard that whispertale). Taiase shrove she knew not much more than I. Indeed, in her time, although the elfgates here in Qabarat had elderly been built, only Elves had warded them. Her elderyore lorewardens had believed only elfcraft could open and wield them. Thus she was starkly forecaught when first she learned Lashunta now tally among the gatewardens and take share in their work and upkeep. She read it behints much lorework to fit Lashunta soulcraft to Elven gatelore. Even though so often as we mourn loss of the Sage-Queens’ lore, she deems this whit our furtherness’s proof.   Our talk then swerved to the next most eyesome worldfare: the Hoshiasa Worldgate, wherethrough had come Brand and the Aslanta from Qolaryon. Here Taiase grew meek, as she ever does on anything linking to the Moqeva. Yet she shared that, in her time, the wildest legends had told the Moqeva canny of eldritch weirdness daring belief, even of the dreadfullest fare beyond the stars, although one cannot forsoothly tell truth from dreamtale. We had already bemarked the reckful deed whereby the Elves had built Qabarat’s elfgates right atop the Redqueen Worldgate, as if forewillfully so. Yet anon a new thought sprang: it almost seems the elfgate network was built upon an older weirdframe, something not made by the Elves, but someone else. Ashakenly, we both stared at each other, wondering on an awful canniness, and who might dare ask the truth.   Elsewise, Aeosel clove our seerdrill and through our minds touched our dwimmer. He laughed and thrilled at the mightiness, and even tried to take share. I kissed my son and tickled his belly ere he hid behind Taiase, who repeated our oft-spoken word that he will become a soulseer. I found myself so hoping, though I guiltily wonder whether I so behave under selfishness. It would be a safer livelihood than warriorhood, free of plighty, bloody deeds. He could also as a loremaster win stalworth, stand nearer the ladyhood, and owe less scorn, as has been his father’s doom. Is it a good thought to so wish for my son, or am I merely resowing our kind’s evil we bequeathe upon men and Korasha?   Oshis then came to take our son to slumbertide and caught my guilt’s waft. In starkness, I witted his faithful pride at our son’s brightness. My fathermate would foresee our son uprisen, reckless of the dearth. In his heart I deem a sheerness I should meekly follow.
Recap: Lady Vaeol and her flag recovered from Kaure's bridetide and began training to pass the time.
