Phalanx Crawler Vehicle in Castores | World Anvil

Phalanx Crawler

These large, four-legged troop transports were once a common sight across the lands of Jhanin and Achaemen. Built by Rouran, they transported and supported troops in the field, and could serve as mobile bases. Similar machines were also used for agriculture and the transport of goods.   The Crawler featured a cabin in both the fore and rear though vision is some what limited to protect the driver, relying on an spotter's cabin in the center-top of the vehicle. The sides of the vehicle are rows of shield-like panels that can be moved to allow soldiers on and off the vehicle, as well as to attack from using ranged weapons or spears.   Though a number of them were recovered by the Second Empire of Rouran, they have largely disappeared from the Castoran battlefield. It is believed the Dragons of Khaz Vedran still keep a few in their hordes, though they are show pieces more than weapons.

Power Generation

Like most advanced Castoran technology, the Phalanx Crawler uses a 'Lightcraft Beam Drive'. Almaz crystals along the top of the craft allow it to keep itself fueled, channeling the energy into motors that move its legs and power its weapons.

Propulsion

The Phalanx Crawler moves across the land at surprising speed using its four powerful, sturdy legs. While reliable, it is not adept at climbing castle walls like depictions like to fancy.

Weapons & Armament

A Phalanx Crawler has a track along the roof of either side of the transport, upon which normally mount four heavy repeating lightcasters. Normally they peak out of the side shields to fire. Typically a portion of the troops it carried were also armed with their own Lightcasters to augment its firepower.   Should enemies draw too close, the driver could use the vehicle's legs to try and repel attackers.
