The War of Everblossom Glade

The year was 921 of the Herivikan calendar, and tensions between the neighboring countries of Corwen and Arnen were at an all-time high. At the center of the conflict was a stretch of land on the border between the two countries, which contained a magical portal that created a favorable climate for plants, resulting in massive crop yields. Both Corwen and Arnen wanted control of this land, and both were starting to become more willing to resort to extreme measures in order to do so.   In an attempt to diffuse the situation, Arnen sent a diplomat named Eleanor Freemantle to Corwen. Freemantle was a skilled negotiator and worked tirelessly to broker peace between the two countries. However, on the 13th of Firemoot, evidence came to light that seemed to suggest Freemantle was actually an Arnian spy, working to facilitate the downfall of the Corwenian royal family. She was promptly arrested and imprisoned and later murdered in her cell.   News of Freemantle's supposed betrayal and arrest spread quickly, and the already strained relations between Corwen and Arnen took a turn for the worse. Citizens of Corwen, already mistrustful of those from Arnen, erupted into riots and eventually pogroms. One week later, on the 20th of Firemoot, Corwen formally declared war on Arnen.   The war between Corwen and Arnen would last for many years, causing untold suffering and destruction on both sides. While the conflict began over a disputed piece of land and a magical portal, it ultimately came to represent much more: a struggle for power, resources, and for survival. In the end, it would take the intervention of outside forces and the tireless efforts of peacemakers to bring an end to the hostilities and bring about lasting peace between the two countries.
