The Mithrien War

On the 2nd of Firemoot, year 360 of the Herivikan calendar, the Kingdom of Grovanis launched an invasion of its neighboring kingdom, Mithrien. The Kingdom of Grovanis had a clear motive for its invasion: access to the rich mithril deposits that Mithrien was built on. Mithril was a valuable resource that was highly sought after for its ability to create light but extremely tough armor. As the Herivikan empire had been gradually expanding its control over the continent for the past hundred years, Grovanis saw the acquisition of mithril as a way to prepare itself against the potential threat of an invasion. The invasion of Mithrien was a calculated move by Grovanis, as it sought to secure a resource that would bolster its own military capabilities and protect its own borders that were laying next to what we now know as Talgell's borders through which was the only way the Herivikan empire could invade.   Led by Adriana Greygale, the capital of Mithrien, Mitharien, was besieged and sacked, with only four people managing to escape: Eymund the Fisher, a cleric who enjoyed fishing river monsters; Ellori Quinn, a noble young woman of sixteen with a love for adventure; Eadric Quinn, Ellori's brother and the eldest son of Lord Andrew and Lady Eadith Quinn; and Sivert Oddvarson, Eadric's best friend and confidant.   According to Mithrien tradition, the firstborn child of the royal family was kept as the sole offspring and other children were given to high-ranking members of the court to be adopted. This was done to ensure that there was always a member of the royal bloodline available in case something went wrong with the royal family. The royal bloodline was known for having silver-colored blood.   Eadric and Ellori, who were children of the royal line but had been hidden away, joined forces with Sivert and Eymund, along with others they met along the way, to grow a rebellion against Grovanis. After almost three years of planning, they were able to retake the city of Mitharien on the 19th of Highsun, ending a four-month lasting campaign. Tragically, Eadric was slain by Grayham Hengeworth, the king of Grovanis.   Upon learning of her royal bloodline and the death of her brother, Ellori Quinn, who had always been a kind-hearted and preferred adventure to the expectations placed on a noblewoman, took up the crown and became the queen of Mithrien. She worked tirelessly to rebuild the kingdom and restore it to its former glory. Under her leadership, Mithrien became a kind and prosperous kingdom once more, known for its fair and just rule.   Sadly, only a few years later, the Herivikan empire would begin its final expansion and take control of the region. Despite the best efforts of the Kingdom of Mithrien, the empire was ultimately successful in its expansion. The long and bloody conflict between Grovanis and Mithrien, which had resulted in so much suffering and loss of life, ultimately proved to be in vain as the Herivikan empire established its dominance over the area. The fall of Grovanis, Mithrien, and other eastern kingdoms to the Herivikan empire marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the region. After the eastern kingdoms were united to form the country of Ystwyl, the former capital of Mithrien, Mitharien, was renamed Mithrien in honor of the kingdom's valiant fight and continued to serve as the capital for the entire country.
