Warm Welcomes - Beater's Point

General Summary

Having navigated their way into Beater's Point, the Wardens found themselves in trouble with the local dock staff as a half-orc woman named Noh began asking question around why they refused a tow and insisting that they needed to pay a docking fee to her.

Entanglements

Sarya, hearing the disagreement between Noh and Myra, who had disembarked to start repairing the ship, began making her way down from the crows nest where she had spent most of the journey. In her attempt to climb down the rigging she found herself tangled leading to needing needing some help to escape and return to the deck of the ship. Feeling flustered Sarya abandoned her attempts at discussion instead stalking past the group and heading off to a local tavern.   As Hagren and Myra continue discussion with the group approaching on the dock Adama asks Yamil if he has ever had a doughnut. Yamil remarks that he's never had one saying that they have different fried bread where he's from but nothing that matches that description. This boggles Adama and Raijun's mind and they quickly pull Yamil off in the direction of the nearest bakery, Myra handing Yamil a list of groceries and a bag of money to pick up while they are out. Raijun starts to protest giving Yamil the getting the list but Adama drags him off for doughnuts before he can get too upset.    Meanwhile, Hagren having diffused the situation with Noh by convincing her that he is truly the captain of the Divine Reach, they continue on to discuss why we are in port. Hagren mentions that he's looking for repairs and Noh says that she has contacts and would be happy to set Hagren up with. Myra seems skeptical at first having gone from near confrontation with Noh to being buddies but gets the feeling that Noh is on the level now that she understands Hagren is the one helming the ship. Not wanting to leave the ship alone, Hagren asks that Myra accompany him while "Trenchcoat" and Spryg guard the ship. Hagren leaves Trenchcoat in charge who looks overwhelmed at the level of trust Hagren has instilled in him promising to watch it carefully.    Sarya finding her way into town asksa local where she might find a drink. The woman points toward Old Town and says to look for Billie's Tavern , mentioning that Sarya might light the jellyfish. While making her way through town Sarya noticed that a number of personnel were stationed around town at street corners and businesses though didn't seem to clock what group they were specifically.

Doughnuts

Adama, Raijun, and Yamil ask around finally finding their way to Hold's Bakery. In the bakery they meet a dwarvish baker who tells them all of today's specials. Adama makes a special request paying for 10 gold with of doughnuts and says he'll come back when they are ready in a couple hours. Yamil, not wanting to wait to experience a doughnut bought one on the spot and experienced the joy that is doughnuts. The group also inquired with the baker on where a good place to grab a drink later would be and he recommended Billie's Where Sarya had previously been directed.   As they went about their other shopping errands, Adama picking up a set of diamonds and some basic supplies, Yamil doing the shopping Myra requested for groceries, Adama and Raijun question Yamil on what had been up with him since they last saw him. Yamil reported that after he left the group he had returned to Nightwell Hold with the carriage to report back to Thirsten Thompson VII. Thompson was taking the loss of his son hard and so decided to return home while the Manten’Liche Army had moved on towards Timeston  When Raijun inquired if Yamil had heard anything about him from Miss Carter Yamil indicated that she did not say much but 'grabbed her head a lot'. Yamil mentioned that she might be under more stress than usual with Thompson going into grieving. Additionally he said with the beholden opening up a lot of the shipments to Evreres would be unstuck as there is additional celebration in the Slekul capital. Adama reacted to the mentioning Evreres and Yamil asked if everythign was ok as Adama seems to react poorly to the mention of Slekul. Adama says he's had bad interactions with the Manten'Liche and asks for Yamil's assessment. Yamil says he's met both good and bad people from the area but has no strong opinions.    Adama mentions that he used to serve in the military and motions to Yamil's armor saying that his service must be more recent. Yamil responds that he also left a while ago but the armor has lasted him well noting that some of the scratched came from a purple worm fight out in the desert. He was escorting an especially loud group and they attracted some attention. Adama mentioned that we also fought a purple worm in that area recounting the trouble we got into at the Writhing Pillars  Raijun pivots to asking about where Yamil hopes to go next asking if he minds the slight delay for vacation. Yamil mentions that he doesn't mind the vacation and he is still working for Thompson he's also on a personal quest.  That takes him up to Bismuth Abbey and it sounded like we were headed that direction. He mentions it sounds like a similar to Adama's personal quest, noting he too cares passionately about it. Adama asks passingly about Yamil's scars and he responds that he has seen magic do great and terrible things asking Adama if his was a choice or by fate. Adama responds that it was more fate and it's when his 'time of innocence ended.'   Collecting their goods, they return to the baker to collect their doughnuts and head to Billie's Tavern  for a drink.

Noh Questions

Following Noh up the slope and into the town she brings them a large warehouse with it's doors closed labeled Otman's Lot. Noh brings Hagren and Myra inside to 'talk to the boss' and asks that they are nice to 'the old man'. As they walk through the yard Hagren and Myra both note the number of half and full orcs working on the boats. Up above Noh points out a older grey orc man who waves us over indicating he'd be with us in a minute.    As he comes over he has a brief discussion with Noh before turning to Hagren and Myra, "Who might you be?" He introduces himself as Seamile Otman and says he's heard that we have an 'interesting' vessel. Hagren indicates that we are looking for repairs and some potential work on the ship. Otman looks over Hagren and Myra and asks if Myra is the owner so which Myra, who's been silent up to this point corrects him saying that Hagren is the captain and that she's only here as the mechanic. Otman appraises Hagren again impressed and gives him three levels of work they could do. The minimum repairs would be 10K, the medium work 20K, and the overhaul Hagren desires running 73K. Hagren indicates that because we need to be off sooner he'd prefer to do the minimal repairs he also offers the old sloop they had previously dropped off (in The Red Scarves Return - Tracking Thompson's Treasure) in trade. Otman gives him an excellent deal buying the old sloop for 6K off the repairs brining the remaining amount to 4k. After striking a deal Otman says it will take about a day and a half of work for the ship to be ready and offers Hagren and Myra a drink upstairs.    Going up to Otman's office he pours a finger of liquor and asks for news. Hagren relays that the Beholden Crossing should be clear for shipping again. Hagren explains that ancient civ tech seemed to be running rampant and that the incursion has now been put off, though he leaves off that our group had anything to with it explicitly. Otman says that's good to hear but he misses the days when the only thing you had to worry about was pirates. Hagren jokes that you still have to contend with them remarking that we brought in some of the reds previously. Otman scowls saying the reds are a menace, Myra breaks her silence to inquire if the members we brought in recently were dealt with or released. Otman jokes that they were dealt with and that's why he has one out on work release, nodding out the window where Myra clocks Korthak. Otman says that Beholden opening will be good as many had been looking for work.     Otman again compliments Hagren on his ship and asks him what lies ahead and if he's looking for work. Hagren mentions he has a lot going on right now so he doesn't need work but Otman questions what happens longer term asking if he has specific plans for the vessel when his adventuring comes to an end. Hagren tells Otman of his dream of having a travelling restaurant wanting to get more into the food industry though he remarks he may need another ship for that as he wants to attract people for the drinks not for the novelty of the ship. Otman suggests that when that time comes he'd like to help make that dream a reality saying that kin should stick together.    Hagren remarks that he hasn't had the pleasure of talking with many other orcs and is glad to have made Otman's acquaintance. Otman replies that he's also glad to have met Hagren as not all of their brothers and sisters have made their way in the world. Otman lamented that the orcs in Daggermill are worked to toil for masters while those in Slekul still kill each other for sport. "There's no reason we can't live civilly amongst civilization and look out for each other. We have other unions of the Bow Breakers in Port Chrichton, Drel'Themar, and Greenport  Thanking Otman for his hospitality Hagren and Myra are approached by Korthak on the way out. He inquires to Hagren's previous posting and Hagren informs him that if he's still interested to meet at Billie's Tavern  the following day at noon. Hagren realizing his posting is out of date heads to the dock master to swap out the flyer telling people the new ship that will be looking for work as well as the time and location of interviews.    Hagren and Myra decide to stop by the ship to pick up Trenchcoat and ensure that reach doesn't try to blast the boat hands off the deck when they run into the eaglish fellow Hagren saw several days ago upon the party at the The Alabaster Gale. He's currently being beaten back by some of the Bow Breakers as he tries to take notes on the ship. One of the dockhands dunks his notes in the ocean which Myra stoops down to grab and dries off finding notes about Reach. The eagle introduces himself as Random Factorial (Rand for short) saying he's interested in providing his services as a researcher as he has yet to defend his thesis. He indicates he wants to use the boat for research and how he'd be able to publish, Myra pausing him to say that all IP remains with Hagren and publication would have to be okayed by us. Rand starts talking about evocation power crystals hoping to out maneuver Haggen and Myra but Myra instead turns it back asking about how he would convert a potential based necromantic system into an evocation based engine. This gives Rand pause but he's willing to work through the question and consider allowing Myra to read his papers before publishing. Myra informs him that there are interviews tomorrow at Billies' where they would consider his application and to meet them there. He then excitedly flaps away in a haze of notes.    Hagren and Myra then make their way towards Billie's figuring that their friends has most likely ended up at the bar.

Billie's

As the others have slowly converged on the tavern they are greeted by a bouncer at the door who insists no weapons or magic are allowed inside. Sarya, entering first on her own, gives no fuss and hands over her weapons. She stalks over to a corner nursing a single beer, Myra's recently gifted cloak pulled up over her head watching those around.    Raijun, Adama, and Yamil appear next also giving up their weapons without issue though questioning the forbiddance of magic. The bouncer informs them that the glowing jellyfish behind the bar are here to enforce no magic so unless you want to get stung not to use it. As Raijun moves about the room, the jellyfish do indeed seem to track his and Adama's movement (as they are both attuned to the scrolls). Adama and Yamil share a knowing glance as they hand over their weapons (as both of them can summon them) but do so without issue. Yamil and Adama go to buy drinks while Raijun, noticing Myra's cloak thinks she's in the corner. As he goes to greet her he realizes it is Sarya, demands to know how she got the cloak before storming away back to the bar offended that Myra parted with her fine cloak to Sarya.    Raijun strikes up a lively conversation with the Bartender who introduces himself as the proprietor of Billie's and the 'mayor of the town'. Billie says that he owns a number of establishments in town including restaurants and a candy store. Raijun laments not owning any land but suggests the idea of a timeshare saying that the group is looking at vacationing.    As Hagren and Myra enter Hagren unloads a small arsenal while Myra claims to have none as she had stored all of her weapons and her armor in the bag of holding earlier in order to facilitate working on the boat. The bouncer does a cursory glance but feels that Hagren has unleaded enough for two as he lets them in and repeats no weapons no magic. As Myra grabs drinks and sits down next to Sarya and Yamil she notices the table next to the one Sarya has chosen in the corner. Myra notices the patrons keep glancing over at Sarya and catches on of them saying "No you ask her," followed by "They have to get her back safely." Myra is about to suggest that one of the men might be trying to buy Sarya a drink when one of them stands and addresses her.    "You're pretty famous aren't ya?" The man states as Sarya's confusion flashes over her face. "Lady Stagwood isn't it?" Myra, still sitting next to Sarya can't control her chuckle as the man refocuses on her catching sight of the signet ring on her hand. Smiling, the man motions to those behind him as most of the bar patrons being to stand up, red scarves now visible on their clothing. "Lady Stagwood. if you wouldn't mind coming with us."   Myra sighs looking at a concerned Yamil, "See this is why I don't give people my last name."
