The War With Kell
The Kellens are a fierce, warlike People who value being left alone as much as they value their rugged individualism.
Because they lead a simple, no-frills, Spartan life, they are regarded by some as 'barbarians' but this is actually a bit of a misnomer.
In any case, the Kellens occupied some fertile lands north of the Loch, and King Aesil wanted them. He landed a large party on the northern shore and began building.
The Kellens didn't take kindly to that and attacked, driving Aesil's forces off.
This led to a series of sharp skirmishes that mostly went badly for Aesil. Eventually, the Kellens made peace, giving up some of the lands in the North because they realized that although they were getting the better of the warlike King, they simply lacked the numbers to keep pace. Aesil could eventually grind them to dust, so...they settled and agreed to pay an annual tribute to the Kings of Candle'Bre in return for autonomy, similar to what the Free Folk enjoyed.
It was an arrangement that served both groups very well indeed.
