Highlights of the Rule of King Aesil

• Coronated at age 36   • Reaped the benefits of his father’s earlier explorations and tax policies and implemented a “Colonial Period” for the Kingdom that saw the burgeoning population of the Loch region settle more than half of the Basin by the end of his rule.   • Fought a War with Kell (70-74 AC) – it wasn’t as much a war as a series of sharp skirmishes, and although he secured additional lands from the Kellens, Candle’Bre was also forced to pay ruinously expensive war reparations, which made the whole affair a net loss for the Realm. Aesil always considered this to be the biggest stain on his legacy.   • Although Candle’Bre nearly tripled in size under Aesil’s rule, the relentless pace of expansion also spread the population out, and with the population so thin, the territory became signifi cantly harder to defend…   • Aesil died of natural causes at the age of 63.   • Ruled for 27 years.   This was an incredibly dynamic era in the history of the Basin. Where his father had taken a careful, measured approach, King Aesil expanded relentlessly and although he did not live to see it, he made it very clear that if he could expand the Realm to occupy the whole of the Basin in his lifetime, he very much wanted to. Unfortunately, that rampant expansionism would prove to have tragic consequences...
