Magus

A full member in the Order of Magi is called a Magus. Carrying the title of Magus has several perks, but also comes with a wealth of responsibilities as well. Most Magi work within the University doing research and teaching new initiates. Many are deployed with the Order of Blades should the need arise, and several work for the Prime Magus and the Head on various tasks requiring a magical touch.   Magus is a title, although many divine spell casters carry their own titles depending on their religious order as well.   Choosing to be a Magus is voluntary, although it is not uncommon for particularly powerful spell casters to be recruited. Recruitment may carry with it others perks on an individual basis.   Each Magus answers to the Prime Magus and Head of the Commonwealth; however, the Prime Magus also establishes a hierarchy within the Order of Magi. This is based largely on a spell caster's prowess or seniority within the organization. The highest rank within the Order, other than Prime, is a First Magus. The ranking goes down to Fifth Magus.

Qualifications

The only qualification for becoming a Magus is some magical ability and the desire to become one.

Duties

The duties of a Magus are far-reaching. Many serve in the University, teaching and researching for the betterment of the Commonwealth. Some are asked to serve as support to the Blades, and some are tasked with other duties as needed by the Commonwealth.

Responsibilities

A Magus is responsible for working within the Order of Magi, and so he or she is expected to follow orders and execute them to the best of their ability.

Benefits

Being a Magus gives one access to the wealth of information housed within the Commonwealth. Moreover, being a formal member of the largest magical institution in the world gives you authority and allies should they be needed.

Accoutrements & Equipment

A Magus is given a badge according to his or her office as well as a uniform should one be needed for deployment or official duties.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Prime Magus has the authority to remove a Magus from the Order, demoting them to a simple Initiate should duties not be performed or problems arise. This isn't uncommon, although usually only in the Fourth and Fifth ranks. A Magus may voluntarily resign his or her commission. Leaving the office of a Magus is permanent except in extraordinary circumstances as determined by the Head and Prime Magus.

The ranking goes down to Fifth Magus, which holds newly graduated or new spell casters. This rank contains clerks, researchers, and those training for a more specialized role within the order (such as teachers at the University). Fourth Magus are those who have distinguished themselves within the ranks of the Fifth. Third Magus are comprised mostly of teachers at the University as well as those doing more intense and specialized research. Second Magus are those most senior teachers and those who have a specialized magic or role within the Commonwealth.
