What is on the official report?
The October had some difficulty crossing a particular part of space due to a spacial phenomenon. They suffered some damage and once the ship was repaired they were able to get on their way. Missed out on the mess with the
USS Gogarg that preceded
Pilot: The Space Between but were on track to get to the starbase for her captain by then.
What actually happened?
This is something that only the bridge crew (minus Captain Suthmeer, who was filled in on the details roughly later) knows about.
They ran into the
T'Vienor Expanse (not that they are aware of what this is), which ran havoc against their systems. While they were dealing with this stuff, they witnessed a small kind of fight where some unknown ships attempted to escape a vortex but were driven back by equally unknown ships that then disappeared without attempting to render aid.
Starfleet knows about witnessing the fight but believe it to be fragments of some kind of aftereffect or something, that it wasn't real, because there was no evidence of a fight after. The bridge crew know better, though. They were able to find one object floating in space at the location (a piece of
Etangen Ore from a
Yilneh Transport Ship ).
Rekha Sirasikar gets to be the villain here a bit because she's run into the
Vienaran Sect before during her research since she studies this kind of stuff, and acted to hide a few elements of what went down. She's got the ore, and is studying it but has no intent of declaring she has it.
