"There has to be a reason that Moga is so derogatory towards the diplomatic corps, right? It turns out that Moga's dad was high up in the diplomatic corps of Denobula. He was key in negotiating an important, high profile accord when Moga was a young teen. However, there was a scandal, and the higher ups needed a scapegoat. Moga's dad was demoted, his accomplishments stripped from him and the family was forced to move to a remote space station for the rest of his career. Dad continued to serve faithfully in spite of his treatment. Moga is understandably bitter towards the whole institution, and the relationship with his father is strained as a result of it all. Dad is also not thrilled with Moga's choice of careers either. Mom thinks they should both get over it, and that Moga should get married already."
An older man, looking for what will likely be one of the final wins he's allowed before he finally retires. Makes sense that he wouldn't want to mess around with this being a good thing.
