Finnaden

A small country nestled cozily between the foot of a mountain and the coast, Finnaden enjoys being independent of the larger political powers of the world

History

The territory Finnaden occupies was once a part of the Lasposan Empire, albeit a rather alienated part due to the mountain range that separated it from the rest of the continent, but officially declared itself a separate entity in 1209. This action was supported by other nations who also wanted access to the rich landscape of Finnaden, and so they have managed to maintain their neutrality almost completely uninterrupted to this day. Little else has changed in the country in that time.

Agriculture & Industry

Sheep herding is the main agricultural trade in Finnaden. Goats are also kept to a lesser extent, as well as chickens and ducks.   Bee keeping is a more minor agricultural pastime, but still considered essential to the economy.   Crops tend to be grown in smaller quantities by families on their property and sold at the local farmers' markets to provide for the entire community. Locally grown trees include apple, oak, and chestnut, to name a few.   The textiles industry is a fairly large one. At least half of all families have at least one weaver or spinner in the house, and all the noble women are taught to knit and crochet as past times from a young age.

Infrastructure

The towns of Finnaden are marked by rough cobbled roads. Plumbing is still in its rudimentary stages, but serves to keep the communities clean, though most cooking and drinking water is still drawn from nearby wells.   Each town sports at least one tavern, with the main port town housing several to accommodate visitors. Inns are only found in the main port town.
